Have anyone been a victim of makeup theft??

If you have then you may understand the pain and heartache I'm going through, what makes it worse is someone I thought was a friend for 13years stole it... I asked her to help me move and I moved the boxes in my car but while I was asleep she put them back in her car and left first thing that morning before I awoke..... My life, my passion everything was gone.. I knew she stole it I confronted her and called the cops she said she didn't have it... they didn't find it...... I said well maybe Im losing my mind I guess I left it in an open garage for someone to take... Too find that now a month later after she thought all has blown over.. it is all sitting on her dresser displayed for me to see like the idiot she is... & How I know its mine is my brush holder/ tool turn about has my signature in silver sharpie on the bottom... as well as my vice palette, my Cinderella palette & naked palettes have my engraved signature on them.. as well all my brushes have a home made nail polish color on the bottom....so on and so forth its like but now how do I get it back, without being a thief myself granted I guess you could call it retrieving what was mine but when the cops were involved last time she hid it at her ex boyfriends I now found out from him so no proof it was at the house I have receipts and even photos where she has never shopped at a Sephora a day in her life. What would you do if you were in my shoes..?? We added up when the cops were involved receipt wise she has $8,000 in product that isn't the inflation price on some items.

You can sue her for the value of the products (up to $5,000 in most states). Hope you were able to take pictures of your stuff at her place.

Well, I have been asked to stay with her next weekend and take her to her rhino plastic surgery so, I plan on taking photos then I played it off like it was nothing as if I didn't even notice it just a few days ago. I plan on taking that too my lawyer, but my lawyer who is also the prosecuting attorney in our county and city told me if its mine and I saw it take it back everything i havent already replaced while i am there since I do have photos receipts and everything was personalized by me including professional engraving , he said what can she do call the cop and say "my friend just stole an eyeshadow palette that, she has already filed a police report on accusing me of  originally stealing it from her...."  cause she would then have to Describing the same items that I described a month prior that she claimed to not have. which would put her in more hot water for lying to the cops on top of grand larceny

Take pictures just in case but I would definitely just take everything back since you have everything personalized.  And then never let her in your apartment unsupervised ever again.

I get that make up is expensive but who the heck steals someone's entire collection (let alone anything from a friend) ...like you weren't going to notice.

Oh I plan to just to show my personalized items were indeed the one in her home.... & I plan on cutting all ties after that I will even be nice and bring her home frm the hospital but after that shes lost someone who was a good friend the messed up thing is all she had to do was ask if id get her something like it or if she could have something and I would have prob let her have it! God knows any time she had an event or going out I did her make up for her for free but I do free lance as a career and I have been out of work because I didn't have my items. I mean it kills me she'd be a NW15 maybe NW20 in MAC but has 3 bottles of NC45 sitting on her dresser im like really..? & the fact she lied to my face as I sat and cried for days I was like how come everything made it in the move which was 2 houses down from my dads and the only people who helped moved my 32 boxes were her and my fathers. So like I said everything but 2 big boxes in which were there when I was asleep but gone when I woke up and she was gone with it....

That is so sad, I'm sorry that happened to you. I hope it gets resolved, she's a horrible "friend". Why would she want half the makeup that doesn't match her? She was obviously very jealous of your collection. Or you in general. I've had a friend borrow things without asking but thats our relationship, we're like sisters so it only bothered me occasionally. I'd probably had called her out if I were you, but then you probably wouldn't get a chance to take it all back. Unless you called the cops to have them escort you and your belongings out.

I just find it ironic when I met my fiancé he told me she's not a good person she's just using you I said no she's not you don't know her she would never wrong me to find out she would and she did!! [

I'm so sorry!!!! If anything like this would happen to me, I would have no clue what to do with myself.

What a complete idiot this girl sounds like. What on earth would possess someone to steal used makeup? I mean really? and then have the audacity to display it? I really hope this all works out for you! And karma gets the girl. Is it bad to wish her nose comes out looking terrible???

on a side note, this gives me a good idea to make sure I have my name on my palettes and stuff since i'll be moving into a dorm in about a month.

Ha I secretly hope they give her a Michael Jackson nose but then makes me no better than her, I mean I would like at least my high end foundation blush and eyeshadow palettes the rest she can keep granted they are mine in the first place but if it was that serious she had to steal in the first place obviously she needs it more than I do.... Ya know mainly my limited edition stuff like my Cinderella palette tht thing was 50 when i got it but now it's 256 new on amazon!!! Same as my vice palette the funny thing is she does not wear eyeshadow unless its black and only does her foundation if she even does that. It's like my eyeliners or even my carbon black eyeshadows okay I can see that but everything else I'm like why?? Ur not even using it....!

I'm sorry this has happened to you. I cannot imagine what kind of person would steal the whole collection.

I'm not sure how things function in the States, but why don't you simply go to her place and take back what's yours while she's in hospital? After all, you can prove that the stuff is yours.

That's ridiculous ! I don't know how you kept your cool when you saw your stuff in her place. Definitely get your stuff back as it belongs to you and you have a police report (do you?). Let us know what happens

Oh that's so childish. I hate people that do things like that. You've spent your money on products for yourself and as a girl, I'm assuming she knows the value of everything that you had. I'd be furious.
I don't know if it was necessarily a good idea for you to call the cops, especially because it wasn't resolved with their help.
I also think she's pretty stupid for still having everything after you guys had started talking again, and laid it out in plain view.

A similar situation happened to me -- where I lost all my makeup.
I didn't have $8,000 worth of products, but I had at least $1,500 that I kept in my big ole' makeup box. I was moving into another house and I had left it up to my boyfriend to grab the remainder of our belongings because I had to work the evening that we had to be out... and considering we were moving, my landlord wasn't very happy with us.
We move into our new home, and I'm looking everywhere for my make up... I can't find it. It just disappeared. My boyfriend swore that he grabbed everything so I figured it was just buried under all the rubble of our bags and boxes and I'd eventually find it.
Well, the next day I got a call from out landlord yelling at us for the condition of the house after we left, saying that all my stuff was still in the bathrooms and she was throwing it all away.
I never got my makeup back.
Gone.
Everything I had, just gone.

So, I kinda know how you feel losing all that stuff... it sucks, and it's hard to start getting it all back -- not to mention time consuming.
It's a year later and I don't have even half the stuff I used to have, yet.

Oh yes me too. Most recently was during a music video shoot. It was one of the background dancers. After her denying it, I just grabbed her purse out of her hand, dumped out the contents onto a table, saw and grabbed my stuff, (a eyeshadow, eyeliner and 3 brushes), and dropped her purse on the floor. At any rate, everyone laughs at me because I label everything with my name on it. I've seen whole kits being stolen during Fashion Week. (Not the actual act), I just see the aftermath of the poor MUA's freaking out. Taking pictures with a timestamp of your kit contents is a good idea. Back to theposhcupcake, if it was me, I'd take it back asap, with or without her present. Unfortunately your friend knows you're too nice and won't call her on it, thats why she has it displayed out for you, even if you go the legal route, it will take years and cost thousands just to resolve it. But that's your call. There is one sure thing when stealing from a thief... They're never going to call the cops.

That sucks. Hopefully she's now labeled as a thief and won't get work in that area again.

I went to an event and was in a hurry getting photo equipment in the car and did not have time to do my makeup. I knew we would have a lot of time after we set up and no time before we left so I took my whole train case full of makeup. It  disappeared. All Mac, Urban Decay, Makeup forever, Nars... The one that I really missed was my big Nars palette with the eyeshadows, blush, highlighter and lipsticks. That was just my personal makeup and it had to be at least $1000 worth. I could't imagine someone you know personally doing that knowing that it is what you use for work. That person has not morals.

I agree, a close friend doing something like this is such a breach of trust and betrayal.

My daughter suffered a makeup theft.  She had a flight delay from Las Vegas to Kansas City, MO.  She has a friend in KC who put her up for the night.  Some one broke into her friend's locked car and took the bag that contained all of my daughter's makeup, hair supplies, hair dryer and flat iron.  She was devastated.  She happened to still be living at home at the time.  On a whim I called our insurance agent and inquired if that might be covered under our homeowner's policy...IT WAS!!!!  She then had to go through a mental list of all she had and lost and the approx. value.  She got a check for the whole thing.  She was still faced with the task of replacing everything which was an arduous one.  Many things she had were discontinued or changed in formula.  After a month or so, she finally put together a makeup bag, much like the one that was stolen, but she was still bothered by the idea of such an invasion of her personal belongings

So you're allowed to ask for her to be criminally prosecuted for grand larceny ($1000+ value of materials stolen, which is a felony in many places) as well as bring a civil suit against her for her actions. In the civil suit, you can ask for $5000 for the materials stolen, and after the criminal prosecution has occurred, your stolen possessions should also be returned to you. Unfortunately they probably won't be mint condition, but that's what the civil suit is for.

I'm really sorry to hear that and it really suck. :C I basically learned the hard way over the last couple of months that a couple of people  I thought were my friends really aren't... or are pretty crappy friends I need to let go of. In your situation, just grab the stuff, and if she calls you out on it, ask her to show you her proofs of purchase :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />  It's not stealing, it's just reappropriating what is rightfully yours. I'd take pictures of everything in her apartment while you're there heck, don't just take pictures, make a video recording with your narrating about the products she's taken and continue to pursue the prosecution because clearly if she's going to steal, she deserves what she gets.

I know this is cold comfort and probably not what you want to hear, but also remember: makeup are just things. Granted, expensive things and your hobby and passion, but ultimately things are replaceable even if it sucks/is expensive to replace. I'd be equally upset and distraught, and it's horrible that someone you considered a friend would do that to you. Good luck and we'll all be praying for your situation to work out!

Wow! If i were you I would have already taken the stuff from her house as soon as I saw it lol but I really hope you get it resolved, it is ridiculous that a "friend" would do that to you. I have had "friends" steal little stuff like lip balm and lipsticks and it made me mad, its from the drug store i mean she could easily get it. Hope everything works out in your favor

I really hope everything works out for you...I would also just take everything back and say eff her, and cut all ties. Because this is all so very messed up.
