Your perfect makeup collection

Recommended Posts

We are all here trying to stop buying new products, use up what we´ve got or even downsize on the amounts we have. That got me wondering, what does the perfect makeup collection look like? one of each products all from one brand? high end items or drugstore? a cabinet with drawers for each category or just a little bag with every basics?

For me personally, I would love to get my collection down to one makeup bag full with my everyday products, and having a little drawer on the side with a few extra products and special occasions items. And that would be it. So I guess A few smaller palettes, 2 or 3 blushes, one or two great lipcolors etc.

What would your perfect makeup collection look like?

Once upon a time, one lipstick was sufficient for me. A company called Cabot made it in the early-to-mid 90's. Its color was perfect: a shimmery mix of mauve, bronze, and pink that is next to impossible to describe. I wore this color exclusively for years; strangers used to stop and compliment me on it; when I learned it was discontinued, I scoured pharmacies all over Buffalo to buy up the very few tubes left. My last one was destroyed by a nasty little child whose mother thought it was cute that her progeny had the values of a burglar, who helped herself to my purse while I was busy looking after her grandma, and not only smeared it all over her (the child's own) face but all over the walls, which I was then required to clean. (I was a home-health aide at the time, and because the wages suck there was no way I could have sent it to Three Custom Color Specialists, who at the time were just starting up.)

If I could find an exact replica, that would probably end my Lipstick Quest. I would have my long-gone holy grail, in addition to maybe a good Kickass Red and a Jean Queen, Clinique Black Honey, and  Dior Lip Glow for weekends and casual Fridays. The closest I have found is NYC's Brandy Sparkle, which I picked up at a Rite Aid a couple days ago. It's very pretty and I hope to capture the magic.

Aside from this, I'd keep a good blush and bronzer set, possibly Lorac's or one of Too Faced's sets; Clinique Mocha Pink blush, if it's still made; Origins Pinch Your Cheeks or similar gel blush; a good set of neutral shadows; liners (black, brown, gray, plum, deep green.) I might keep a set of crazier colors from an indie brand in a separate bag, for those days when I want to get weird or go sing karaoke.

My perfect cosmetics collection would all fit in my Tokidoki make up bags. One for the actual make up and a smaller one for the brushes (my brush bag is "perfect" already).

It would include: 1 lipstick, 1 lip balm, 1 lip gloss, 1 or 2 small eyeshadow palettes (with 2 to 4 colors each), one blush, one bronzer, on powder foundation, one eye primer and one face primer. I would also need a mascara and eyeliner for night looks.

I just want to get my collection down to where I don't feel so overwhelmed about my collection. I do the Monday club so it's not as bad as it used to be but it's still too much.

I think it's funny that I used to be the ones who needed or thought they needed this big whole stash. That I needed every blush in every color or every eyeshadow palette ever made. Now I just want to not feel so overwhelmed. I understand there is no way I am going to get through all of it anytime soon and I am just unable to part with it. That's what I am hoping to be able to do soon. I am doing really well in my no-buy, but I still find myself standing in the aisles staring at it all.

My perfect collection would be just to get my HG products and that is it

Chanel powder and concealer

Maybe 1 or 2 HG eyeshadow palettes with a custom palette of colors that I absolutely need but wouldn't wear everyday. EX: Red. I love red eyeshadow but I do not wear it everyday.

UD eyeliner in rainbow colors. I am an eyeliner girl!

I bronzer and 1 or 2 blushes

Lipstick in each color. I don't need what seems like 5 million reds but alas, I have what seems to be 5 million reds.

Too Faced Brow Envy for Brows and one Brow pencil

1 Mascara at a time (I manage this one very well though)

Yeah, I didn't think of mascara...that's the one thing I don't have a real HG, because I refuse to spend two hours pay for a mascara and I switch them out every few months. I'll just throw into my bag whatever drugstore brand is on sale.

    • My personal recommendation would be the beauty products from Spa Ceylon, a Sri Lankan brand that combine Ayurvedic ingredients to form natural beauty products. A favourite would be the Neem & Tea Tree Purifying Mineral Masque as it worked wonders on my sensitive blemished skin.

Step #4: Time to apply the Wella hair toner onto places that need it the most. Step #5: Now you can leave Wella hair toner to process for about 5 minutes as per your need of to neutralize, brighten or deepen hair. Step #6: wash your hair and applies hair conditioner to rehydrate your colored hair. Don’t shampoo your hair again. It will ruin your entire effort. AND How do you use a Wella toner?
