Are you excited about the bright orange lip trend?

Recommended Posts

I recently read in an Allure article that the most popular makeup trend for spring 2014 is bright orange lips. (http://www.allure.com/makeup-looks/2014/new-makeup-color-trends-for-2014#slide=1)

I also saw Lisa Eldridge do a youtube video on how to dupe one of Kiera Knightly's red carpet looks wearing an orange lip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg6GZisIOYs&list=UUFghPtzFcmyDiID1ASMA4Dg&feature=c4-overview)

I remember that last season bright corals were very popular for spring and summer. I'm not sure if an orange lip would look good on me but I plan to try it out! Maybe I'll do where the suggested lip color by Allure and get the Maybelline Color Sensational shade in Electric Orange. If I do I'll report back.

As an ex-smoker I don't exactly have bright white teeth, so even lipsticks with orange undertones for me are a nightmare, imagine a bright full orange! :icon_neut

It scares me quite a lot...

I don't think it's going to be my colour for the season, I might definitely try orange lipglosses or sheer lipsticks though...

Anyway, it appears to me that Keira's Red Carpet lipstick was more of a simple orangey red like Dangerous by Mac rather than a proper orange...

Hmmm... I really don't like to discourage people from trying new things, but I really don't see how orange lipstick can be flattering for anyone... Just my two cents

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! They look horrible on me and wash me out and it just doesn't look normal! Red and pink seems to flow with our skin tones and meld into my skin where as orange just sits on top of my skin and looks so artificial!!!!

ugh no way. I could take an orange-based red, perhaps, but a full orange?! that's the one lip color that should never make a come back. ever.

I'm open to it, but I might take baby steps. I'm still a bit afraid of lipsticks, especially matte shades, so I might do this with a more pigmented lip gloss first.

I actually ended up with a very orangy red lipstick once and surprisingly I loved it on me. I wore it quite a bit too. Then again you have to be conscience of how you're doing your other makeup as well. I suggest a nude to subtle eye. Nothing too splashy :) Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk

That's awesome! I love orange lips. In use got my beautiful rocket from lime crime and I'm glad to hear its in fashion for 2014. I am honestly not too thrilled about radiant orchid

I love it! I just got Kat Von Din A-Go-go and it's so cool. But it depends on your skin tone. And the hue the orange is in. Remember there are many different shades just try the one that is most flattering to you. That's why I love Sephora you and test all the pretty lipsticks.

Brown women have been wearing orange lipsticks for decades, same for the purple/orchid shades everyone is crazy about now, I have fifty million of both shades, when you go to the makeup counter and they've just run out, it's because I bought the last twenty. If it's any shade of orange or purple, I will buy it. As to orange, it's fine you just have to find the right shade and tone for your complexion and full on orange will definitely look better on those with warmer undertones, I can't imagine it would be flattering on someone who happens to be very pale though.

Red and pink do not flow with everyone's skin tones.

Wow! That is gorgeous. I'm definitely going to get one of those. However, I don't think it matches the "bright orange" lip "trend" that Allure was writing about. It seems to me that that color is much more versatile and can be worn much more easily that the true orange.

Thanks for posting it, though, you just gave me a new lemming.

I wasn't talking about EVERYONE!! The question was "are you excited about the bright orang lip trend?" And I answered for me! And what looks good on me, not you or anyone else. Don't take it so personally! If you want to wear orange and look good in it, by all means wear it! I just wouldn't cause it doesn't look good on me! Is that OK?

[@]Spiritwind10[/@] Um, first of all, you need to calm down. Please. I wasn't accusing you of anything, I was merely pointing out that red and pink don't suit everyone. I'm not taking anything personally, I don't know you, so it can't be personal can it? And even if I had accused you of anything, you did say our skin tones and that's what I was responding to, look at your post.

Light pink makes me look super-pale and people ask if I'm sick. Bright pink makes my face look very red. Pink does not work for me.

Thank you again for this wonderful rec and swatch. I just picked this up at CVS like 5 minutes ago. I can't wait to take pics and review!

Could be worth a try.  Looks like a fun shade, but I'd really have to try it to see.  Considering I do own a purple shade, I might as well try orange :)

I'm very pale and cool-toned. Red-orange is a nightmare enough, orange-orange is bad news. I've recently discovered a way to wear orange shadow but that's nowhere near as prominent on me because I wear thick-framed glasses that kind of tone down everything I put on my eyes.

It's been a week and so far the results are overwhelmingly "ick" for bright orange lips - 68%. I found the photo of Keira Knightly from the UK premiere of Jack Ryan that Lisa Eldrige duped in the video I referred to earlier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg6GZisIOYs&list=UUFghPtzFcmyDiID1ASMA4Dg&feature=c4-overview)

Do you think it looks pretty? Does it make you change your  mind about orange lips?

    • My Netflix subscription is cancelled. I was only allowed the free month. I wanted so badly to watch a new show called Ares that came out Friday. I did not think I would get to see it before my subscription expired, but I did. I was able to watch it on the last day! I was so happy, because I'm not allowed to renew Netflix per my no buy rules. And I can't live with exceptions to my rules. Ares I loved and hated at the same time. I loved the cast, acting, sets, costumes, hair and makeup, exteriors, and story line. Ares is a great story about a poor and stressed college girl joining an Illuminati type of cult, in Amsterdam. But I hated all the gory horror, and they killed off so many interesting characters. The gory horror is hard to watch, and could be triggering to some. I know the gruesome elements are symbolizing something important in the story, but it's disturbing. The first episodes were good at developing the story, but at the end it was exhausting with all the violence. I think it would have been great as just a psychological drama. Still I'm so glad I got to watch it without violating my rules. Back to watching no buy videos on YouTube now.
    • I didn't tryied the vitimin C serum cream for my skin, I think it very harsh when you are using it at your skin so it would be hard for me to have it I will try something else..
    • Today was pay day. I paid $22.90 extra on my credit card. I realized I'm now halfway done with my goal for the month - to pay $100.00 toward my credit card (including minimum payment). It's halfway through the month, so I am right on track! I made a $30 payment last week. I got deodorant, the only beauty item I need to replace. I ended up not getting the fancy new Secret or an Avon set, but just regular Secret Paris Rose from Dollar General. It was $5 - I thought that was a little high in price. I had this deo before during my No Buys, so it's a tradition. I didn't feel like spending extra or taking the time to order online. Too lazy to fill out the order pages! I sure am out of practice shopping!
    • What am I wishing for right now? Yesterday I was looking at the Yves Rocher French website to see if they have anything new that might come to the US. I found something to love, but not a thing this time. In France, Yves Rocher has special salons. They have some fabulous sounding treatments. One I really fell in love with was an eyebrow treatment. They put eye patches under your eyes, then while those are on, they shape the eyebrows. After all is done, they apply an eye cream. That's what I'd love right now, and I suppose I could copy it at home with what I already have.
    • It feels like it has been January for a long time, but we're only halfway through the month. There's still time to do a lot of things this month!  I have some empties! I finished my three DHC foil packets, the two mini micellar waters from my Yves Rocher Advent Calendar, and my Neutrogena Shampoo mini.  Now using up: June Jacobs Green Tea and Cucumber Shampoo mini Freeman Cucumber and Pink Salt Masque packet MAC Strobe Cream mini in Pinklite - This is a really nice cream that has a bit of pink color corrector and a bit of luminosity. It's great for a no makeup routine! Very pretty, and feels wonderful on the skin. I got it in an Ipsy bag.  I had the Freeman cucumber masque in my project use it up in January 2018. Now I have another one to use. There is a lot of product in the packet. It is enough for several weeks of use. But it is a clay masque, so it gets dry and messy in the packet. I recall having a hard time using it all up before. So I opened the packet all around the edges, and used a spatula to transfer the contents into an empty jar so it will stay fresh and be easier to use up. I'm looking forward to using it with my new masque brush! I will be having some fun masque and movie nights!
