Starlooks October 2014 (SPOILERS)

Recommended Posts

I'm sooooo excited about this sneak peek!

Seriously, brows are my biggest obsession right now, but I have trouble varying up the shapes so those guides will be awesome. Brow stencils, tweezers, wax, AND a highlight? I am so on board for this.

Unsubbed as of September so I am pretty happy since that box didnt appeal to me.. this box looks awesome but it would have been upsetting fo rme since its a duplicate..  I received a similar item in a box in 2013 and what was not featured in that box but in this new one, i ended up receiving from Starlooks since I had asked for it a few months ago..

You guys will be happy for sure!!!

just talked to a starlooks rep - the brow kit is the only thing in October's box, it is lower than our normal value....

also, newbies in sept. box got a new lip paint :(  We oldies didn't get it....

I absolutely love Glowofgrace's channel and have been an avid watcher of hers for a couple years but I must say that if we are only getting a brow kit for October, I'm pretty bummed. If we can't customize it, what's the point? I'm so blonde that most "universal" colors still look extremely dark on me and Starlooks has 4 options available. Hopefully this will kick start the customization they were mentioning.

I really don't care for brow powders since I basically have to draw my eyebrows on since I have almost none (this is what happens when you tweeze too much for too long, friends) but I'm interested in testing this out. I'm concerned about how the shade selection will turn out though. I think all of the colors will be way too red (for me) and the darkest one will be too dark.

I wonder if Starlooks would honor requests if you email them with your shades?  I don't have issues with brow powder as my eyebrows are a  chocolate brown, so most any med to dark brown shade will work for me, but for those ladies who have lighter brows, perhaps they might take that into consideration?

it wouldn't hurt to ask them.

I was wondering if we would get that or not. It would be nice to get it in an upcoming box.

What?!? The only thing? I mean, I love brow products, but getting a product marketed towards only brows seems kind of silly. Not only is it undervalue, but it could be a miss for a lot of subscribers. And since it's the October item, a month I'd usually associate with really fun and crazy items, that's kind of a let down....

Well, I already got charged for it. I'll just make the best of it. Still excited to the kit out, but had I known it would be the only item I may have just skipped the month.

yeah, but we get a nice brush and tweezers with it, so think of it as getting a couple of tools too :)  I know, I spoke with Starlooks and they were like yeah, but it is a big kit!

I emailed Starlooks about this, and I got the expected sorry but try to enjoy it response. Whoever emailed me back was very pleasant. The thing that really turns me off about this box is the lack of variety, which is one of my favorite things about Starboxes. I very rarely get a box that I'll use all the things for, but I'll usually use the majority of it. This box is basically either something you like or something you have no use for, and while I'm sure that many will love this box, a lot of us will have difficulty finding things to like about it.

Although it's disappointing, it's still far better than the last blogger box we received. *Still* pissed about that one.

I'm one of the crazy ones who is going to LOVE this box.  I'm always on the lookout for good brow products (half my brows are splotchy and just don't grow right so I have to fill them in).

So, I finally emailed and asked when customization was going to begin and if I could request the lightest kit for my pale princess self and this is the response I got:

"Kyra,

Customization will begin in 2015 :)

The palette you will receive actually does contain our lightest shade, plus some others for contouring. I would just recommend using it sparingly. If you don't like it for your brows, you can always use them as eye shadows!"

It doesn't say WHEN next year, but it looks like we'll get customization in 2015! :-D

You know, the longer I thought about this box, the more excited I got! Sure I was a little miffed that it lacked variety, but brows are my latest beauty obsession. Only downside, I was planning on getting a Dip Brow for my birthday, so the powders and wax are kind of moot. The tweezers, brush, and stencils will still be useful though. Would have loved some more lip products though.

Got mine in the mail today! Sadly, the shades they sent are too dark for my paleness. They said we can double it as a neutral palette but honestly, I have SO many neutral colors that this isn't going to work for me. I'll just have to pass it on to my darker complected little sister!

So I just got mine in the mail today, it's Book 2 for those of you who are curious, and it's very dark, which given my skin tone and hair color looks ridiculous on me. The brush is entirely useless as are the stencils, although others may be able to use those, I just don't pluck my brows a ton because I'm fairly happy with my natural shape. I do like the tweezers and the cream highlight shade, although the card says its supposed to be a powder.

I feel like saying the powders can double as eyeshadows is a cop out, because they realized that not all of their subscribers would have a use for this kit. I almost cancelled my subscription and now I'm kind of wishing I did. I just keep telling myself to hold out for December because I want that giant palette.

The cardboard palette itself feels really low quality to me. The pans in mine don't sit nicely in their spots; I'll probably end up putting them in a small z-palette I have somewhere.

I really love my kit!  I don't have any issues with the items staying in their pans and I do appreciate that the box is made from recycled paper....

The colors are perfect for my  brown eyebrows - this isn't the darkest shade(BK-1), thankfully.  There are two shades lighter than this and the BK-3 would have been too light for me (this is BK-2) and BK-4 is for blonds.

I am so sorry that this kit doesn't work for some of you, because I do think it is really nice!  I would not use the colors as eyeshadows - they are a different formula and aren't pigmented enough for that.  But they have enough for eyebrow shading.  The last thing anyone wants is to wipe their brows and have a big ol' brown streak now running across their forehead.

Glad I skipped out on this month. My hair is currently blonde so the chances of me getting a kit light enough to work for me were pretty slim. Might join back up next month though. Will have to wait for the preview.

Too dark for me :( I have blonde hair so it would look super funny. I'm quite disappointed in the choice-not the product but wish we could have a color choice. Not pleased .

    • Amazing video from Second Year No Buyer Elle S today on YouTube: "$1000 Worth of Eyeshadow ... What Could I have Bought Instead?" Elle shows only seven palettes that cost a total of $1000 (CAD). Elle is not in the dream of denial shopping. She is serious about money, facing reality, real life (though she is still enjoying the creativity of makeup). "I can't afford it," she says. I can relate to her point about being someone who buys a lot of cosmetics, but never goes for a mani or pedi, or anything like that. She asks: How many things have I missed because of my purchases? Now that's something to think about! I often think of how my life would have been different if I'd been able to start on this No Buy path at a young age. There was no Internet then, so I did not have this kind of inspiration. I only had magazines and TV ads telling me to buy, buy, buy!  But, why do all the No Buy people say they want to replace shopping with experiences? Shopping is an experience too! It a great experience and that's why we like it. I'm only giving it up to get rid of debt, because I know money makes me happy.  I grew up in 1970s suburban America. I grew up in a shopping mall and in K Mart. I was always at those places with my friends, searching for identity. So of course shopping is high on my list of experiences.  THE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE-1970s-1980s The Barbie Dolls and Barbie clothes at K Mart Getting a mood ring at K Mart and feeling so cool  The excited butterflies in the tummy, when pulling into the shopping mall parking lot The bright lights and the smell of the Cinnabon store The Waldenbooks, where you bought Laura Ingalls Wilder books, where you discovered Sylvia Plath The record store, where you thumbed through record albums, and you discovered Blondie and Jacqueline du Pre The Clinique counter, where the lady did your makeup and made you feel glamorous and grown up, and assured you Brooke Shields was nothing without her makeup  The food! Arthur Treachers Fish and Chips, Morrisons Cafeteria with the fried chicken and buttery rolls and iced tea All the latest issues of Teen and Seventeen magazine The Super X drugstore with Sophia perfume, Vidal Sassoon shampoo, and Maybelline Kissing Potion The movie theater where you saw The Turning Point seven times and fell in love with ballet (1977 the most magical year) Orange Julius Trying European cheese samples at the Swiss Colony The ORLANE counter - the epitome of elegance to me  The Stendahl counter - This was a really beautiful and expensive French cosmetics brand. The lady at the counter was French. I practiced my French with her and she sent me a little note in French later on. She was kind. I had cystic acne. It was bad. "Oh, I see you have a little but of acne. Not to worry, it just needs a bit of astringent and fond de teint." She was tactful and gave me nice samples.  My first Estee Lauder GWP - I thought I was Princess Di - it had Cinnibar perfume My first LANCOME GWP - I thought I was Princess Caroline. I was given Sun Touched Terra lipstick  Princess Marcella Borghese Germaine Monteil - Royal Secret Alexandra de Markoff - I never did get to try that legendary foundation - department store cosmetics were rare and glorious treats Adrien Arpel in her pre HSN days  The Erno Laszlo counter. It was so mysterious. You could not buy from them unless you went through a kind of initiation. You had to get an analysis and buy a special kit. It was fascinating. Now they just have samples going in beauty sub boxes any old way - Dr. L would not be very happy. He wanted his beauty routines done right and they were quite unorthodox. See the book, The Natural Way to Super Beauty by Mary Ann Crenshaw to know more about this.  And I could go on and on. Of course I had no credit cards then, no job, just a little allowance. So I was not really ever spending much, just having fun. It's when you're older and have credit and money that it becomes a problem. Now there's no money, no time to shop, K Mart and the malls are ghost towns. And don't get me started on how much more fun TV was back then. Even going to the library was so much fun. Now all is so dull, dull, dull! I just get up, go to my job, come home, eat dinner, go to bed, and hope that my No Buy will make me rich and happy one day.
    • i love natural products, but before buying products , i encourage u to know what type ur skin and read about it well , then everything will be clear for u and easy
    • i need info regarding Lash Extensions from real experience ?!
    • I am religiously using Vitamin C, E, Ferulic Acid serum by Radium Skin. They ship overseas. And its not expensive too, considering how much other mainstream labels are charging.
