33 Days of Decluttering - November/December 2014

Recommended Posts

Today I started working on the stacks of papers that we have laying about:

(1) tossed all the grocery ads except current ones (we need to hit the grocery store this weekend)

(2) went through all the mail, tossed all the catalogs, shredded the credit card applications and tossed the junk mail, got bills together to be paid this weekend

(3) went through all the store and restaurant coupons, tossed expired ones and ones we won't use and kept the good ones, put them in a basket in the kitchen so we can use them

(4) have one pair of pants to return to Kohl's that I ordered on line & they didn't fit

(5) found two coke codes, entered them into the website and tossed them

I can tell a difference already and I'm only on day three!!

Apparently, I walked away from the computer without hitting post last night.

Day 5:

  1. Pair of nude pumps - don't quite fit right and my daughter likes them better anyway. Out of my closet and into hers.
  2. An orange polo that I don't wear. I don't even like orange, so I'm not sure why I held on to it. Donated.
  3. A green short sleeved button up shirt - I'm fairly busty, so button up shirts never do work well on me. Sometimes I wore it over a tank and left it open, but I always hated the way the sleeves looked. Donated.

I couldn't post yesterday, so this is for yesterday and today:

Day 4 & 5:

1. a big "baby shower" chair that's been sitting in my garage for well over a year. It's on the sidewalk for someone to take if they want it, or the trash man will take it.

2. A couple of old, ratty towels.

3. Two pairs of out of style, old pants that no longer fit me.

4. A worn out leather purse.

5. OCC lip tar in strumpet -- I may be the only one that doesn't enjoy these. Yes, they are pigmented, but a pain to apply. This tube was getting all separated too.

6. Too Faced La Crème Color Drenched Lip Cream in Marshmallow Bunny -- Nice formula, terrible color on me. Both of these lip products were from Sephora's Give Me More Lip set from 2013, and boy, do I regret that. Only a few things ended up working for me.

I must say, reading your lists gives me ideas of things to toss!

Day 6:

I went through the basket on top of my dresser which stores some of my hair and body care products.

1) Hand Cream - Not sure how old it is. (Trash)

2) Body Cream x2 - Opened them last winter so they're pretty old. Don't really like them. (Trash)

3) Hairspray - Don't really use it. Giving it to a friend. (Pass Along)

4) Heat Protectant Spray - Pretty much empty. (Trash)

5) Hair Oil - Used the last bit of it today. (Trash)

Missed yesterday since I wasn't home long enough to do any de-cluttering. Day 6:

  1. Wallet - purchased a new one that is also a wristlet. Donate
  2. Watch that doesn't work - I waited too long to return it for refund or repair. Trash
  3. Cobra Tag - thing that's supposed to help you find your phone, etc. It was so annoying and kept beeping all of the time. Charging cord is lost, so trash.
  4. Expired coupons - trash
  5. Sephora tote bag - donate

I'm a bit late to this party, but I'm going to join anyway  :). I,may be moving out of state next year, so some de-cluttering is in order. Getting rid of three items a day probably won't work for me, so I'm going to aim for getting rid of 100 items over a course of 33 days. Mostly aiming at cloths and beauty stuff, but some random items may show up as well.

Today's batch:

1. Dress pants that never fitted me well - donate

2. Pencil skirt in size 2 (not sure why I still have it) - donate

3. Summer blazer that wan't worn in a couple of year, but still has some life left in it - donate

4. Rite Aid daily scrub. I didn't really like and I never reach out for it anymore - trash

5. November 2014 Ipsy bag - donate

I didn't get a chance to declutter or post yesterday so I am aiming for 6 (or more) things today...here is what I have so far

(1) pair of tweezers, they never really worked, not sure why I held onto them...trash

(2) Tricalm sample-I used it once for an itchy spot on my leg, didn't work, not sure why I thought I would keep it...trash

(3) lipgloss from a sub bag, I don't use lipgloss really, so this will go as an extra for my secret Santa

(4) small mesh gift bag-sending it to my secret Santa with all the extras in it

(5) false eyelashes from a sub bag-I don't use them-will stick it in my sell/trade pile

(6) grill cover-we bought it and it was too small for our grill & we never got around to returning it, will put it in the garage sale pile

This might be all I get to today, but if I get more I will post.

I forgot already what day I'm on, but here's what I got done today:

(1) We moved recently and I still have boxes to unpack so I unpacked one in the family room that we've been tripping over...mostly contained papers and personal items, so I put things in their place and used the box to put the recycling items in-seriously, this is a huge moving box of stuff GONE!!!

(2) Recycled all the newspapers and other boxes that we emptied this week

(3) Clutch case for my old iPhone-garage sale pile

(4) Bugs Bunny pin-garage sale pile

(5) five bras-either worn out or had underwires in them, I HATE underwire, not sure why I even bought them-trash

I love reading through this thread & seeing progress people are making, so inspiring!! Keep up the good work, we are all going to start 2015 clutter free!!!

edited for my crappy spelling

ETA (6) tossed another pair of socks

4. My ex's nail kit found in the back of the closet (trash)

5. 12 bags from the ipsy sub that I never liked (donate)

Ok, ladies, I went to town yesterday!!  My office/spare bedroom in the new house has become a staging area for the as yet unpacked boxes that we have.  I had time yesterday to get a good jump start on that room and I got a lot done.  I think I emptied at least 4- boxes, some went to the garage sale pile, a lot of it went to the trash/recycling, and the rest got put away.  I didn't even keep track of what all I put in which pile, but it was WAY more than the 3 per day.  There's still a lot more to do in that room, but at least now I can get in there & really start sorting stuff.

I just love the idea of this project! I'm so in!

Ok, so my Day 1 starts now: November 24, 2014

I'm not at home right now, but I'll do this when I get home tonight! I'm going to be decluttering the following categories:

1. Makeup and Beauty

2. Clothes and Shoes

3. Books

4. Random Junk

I will count rounding up loose photos into albums as 3 items since that takes more time and I have a lot of them lying around!

My husband and I went on a huge decluttering spree over the weekend - we hauled away four car loads of stuff to sell and donate and there's still some more to go. Our closet is actually usable, we got rid of the boxes that we were tripping over and the ones hiding behind the couch, and our apartment already is just looking and feeling much better. Together, we got ride of hundreds of items - most of them mine (10 garbage bags of clothing, all belonging to me, wow).

With that said, I'm still going to be doing this! I've already noticed a few little stragglers hanging around that need to be donated or tossed. I also didn't even touch my makeup (the nail polish collection is done and has been cut in half), so I need to do that - and I've got a feeling that will be much harder. I need to just play catch up. Here are today's items that I'll be saying goodbye to:

  1. Tresemme Shampoo - This was one of the huge, jumbo sized bottles that had a pump and everything. We made it about 2/3 through, but water has slowly been leaking into it and now it's a nasty, watered-down mess. Trash.
  2. Tresemme Conditioner - the same thing happened with this. It wasn't nearly as bad or to the same degree, but still kinda gross. Trash.
  3. Betsey Johnson watch - I don't really wear Betsey Johnson stuff anymore, I guess I've aged out of it. It's in good condition and all it needs is a new battery. Sell.
  4. CHI straightener - I've had this since middle school. It had a good run. I don't straighten/use heated tools on my hair anymore, so there's no need for it to hang around.
  5. Febreeze candle - Found this in the bottom of a drawer. It was half used and it had kind of begun to separate. Gross! Trash.

According to the document I have that keeps track of this, that brings me up to 18 items!

Wow, everyone is doing AMAZINGLY well.

Day 8 & 9

1. 2 old boxes that held two old laptops that I don't even have anymore!

2. an outdated travel book to Oregon. It's been a while since I've taken that trip, lol.

3. Some old DVDs. There was a season 1 of Grey's Anatomy, and the Iron Chef series in the pile. Seriously, I don't know why I hold on to these things!

4. A used diet tracker. I thought I would look back on this for ideas but never have.

5. A zip drive. Geez, does anyone even remember these?

6. a stack of catalogs.

Bonus items: a few pins that I don't wear, and an empty canister that I thought I might reuse but haven't. Toss.

Seeing all these things I've been hanging on to for no reason makes me feel like a hoarder. I think I'm going to get more ruthless with myself. I moved into this house 4 years ago, and left a bunch of unpacked boxes in the garage. I'm realizing that I don't even miss those things, nor even know what's in the boxes anymore. Theoretically, I have no use for that stuff and should just get rid of it all!

In order to catch up, I did another round for the day and grabbed a few items that I know need to go:

  1. Pajama shirt - old, ratty, and absolutely disgusting. The gigantic hole in the armpit does provide some nice ventilation, though. Trash.
  2. Pajama bottoms - several holes have sprung up over the past few months and keep getting bigger and bigger every time I wash and wear them. Trash.
  3. Ear stretching supplies. I used to have stretched ears and my lobes are all shrunk down now. I don't plan on doing that again, either. Trash.
  4. Makeup bag from Ipsy. Not really my style, but someone else might like it. Donate.

    • According to what I think, when anyone or any organization is deciding to develop an app for themselves or their business they have two options. The first option would be to simply search for a good android app developers company or search and hire a freelance app developer. The second option, which I personally don’t suggest to anyone, is to develop the app in house by hiring someone skilled on your organization’s payroll. It is my personal opinion that one should outsource the app development to someone professional who has the required expertise. Do you think in your opinion that building an app in house would be a better option?
