Noob lip help! Needing a pale base for dark lips

Hi guys! I'm new to this forum and to make up in general so first I wanted to say HI!

I'm a proper lip noob and I'm having trouble with lipgloss; Whenever I put it on it looks really streaky and the colour doesn't look right. I have quite dark lips compared to my skin colour so I was wondering if there was a way to prep my lips so I get a paler base colour so the lip gloss all looks even and is a nice colour.

Here are some tips:

Use a lip primer like the one by MAC, they are basically lip foundations which cancel out all of the pigmentation in your lips, giving your lip product more vibrancy

If you do not want to get that, just pat some foundation on your lips! Only a little bit though

You can try and use a lip liner

Exfoliating your lips is very useful as well

Lastly if none of this helps, you can always just pat your lip gloss in your lips with your finger!
