A former model, the talented Alexis Bledel is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Rory Gilmore in the WB program Gilmore Girls. Here's Alexis donning pastel blue eye shadow with contrasting coral lips ‑- kind of an early-'70s retro look. "It's all about the pale, matte face and sea-foam-blue eyes," says makeup artist Deborah Grayson, who walked us through the steps to achieving Alexis's look.

Step 1: Begin with the eyes. Using an oval-shaped blending brush, cover the entire lid with a matte, sea-foam-blue eye shadow.

Step 2: Using the same blue eye shadow and oval brush, extend the blue sidelong to the outer right and left peripheries of the eyes. This effect will give a halo impression, widening the appearance of the eyes.

Step 3: With a cotton swab, smudge a bit of the blue to the outer perimeter of the lower lids as well.

Step 4: Really textured lashes like these are achieved by applying three coats of black volumizing mascara to both the upper and lower lashes. A good tip is to wait a full minute between applying each coat, to allow the previous coat to dry. This way you'll be building upon the layers instead of creating a globby, sticky mess!

Step 5: As soon as lashes are dry, use concealer to cover up any areas of the face that may appear red or blotchy. Notoriously blotchy areas seem to be under the nose, at the side of the nostrils and just under the eyes. Target those areas with a flesh-colored cream concealer. Choose one with more yellow if you're light skinned, and more orange if you're darker skinned. Apply with your finger or a flat concealer brush.

Step 6: Create a small tail to the eyebrows with a powder shadow that exactly matches the color of your natural brow hair ‑- not darker or lighter. The line extends so it lengthens, balancing the extended effect of the blue shadow.

Step 7: Powder the entire face with a no-color translucent powder to blot any shine. This is a very matte look, so there's not a bit of gloss or shine on the face.

Step 8: Using a fan-shaped blush brush, apply a sheer, peachy-coral powder blush to the cheekbones, then diffuse the blush by using the same brush with your translucent powder, blending out over the blush in the same direction as you applied it.

Step 9: Apply a moisturizing coral-hued lipstick to the entire lip area with a pointed lip brush.

Step 10: Finish the look by dabbing an opalescent pink gloss onto the center of the lip and blending slightly outward. The pink hue will create a pretty highlight at the center of the lips.
