Should Voting Be Removed From D2B Challenges? You decide!

Recommended Posts

I say keep the voting in...and I dont think anyone should have to opt out of the voting just because they won etc...if they take the time to participate,do the makeup, they should be able to be voted on.

you guys might hate me for this, but i feel kinda strogly about it:

i voted not to change a thing. It would be stupid to eliminate it, it's a challenge its something that should be fun. and like Rachaelmarie said, i like being able to give people kudos for hard, creative work, half the time i dont even vote for myself when im in them lol. I was telling Liezl (LaChinita) when i won the pussycat dolls dtb...i was so happy, that people thought i did a good enough job to rival her, because her entires are always stellar. Thats what its about for me, challenging myself to be as good as the best on here, not challenging myself to beat others. The votes for me mean im doing something right, other peoples high votes mean i should take a look at what theyre doing.

Manders, you were the scapegoat and now the voting is youre right. People you NEED to be able to deal with it and what Kelly said in the "brianstorming" thread(i think)...seriously...if you dont enter, and you don't plan on it, have your say, and be quiet. There are alot of us who invest alot of time on these.

I enjoy them, users have always had the option to opt out...WHAT more can you ask for, WHY should the users (the majority) who enjoy voting have to suffer because 8 people, who probably dont and wont participate, think so. I know i will enter either way, but i would have more fun if it was kept as a contest

i hope i havent offended anyone, i didnt meant to do that or to make anyone feel singled out.And im not saying that anyone's opinion isnt important, all im saying is its not the rule.

Yes, and it has nothing to do with manders decision and it being about a popularity contest.

On specktra they have their challenge area with no voting. All threads are kept open and they have many different subjects.

No time constraint, you get to pick whatever you wanna do... which is cool because on here some of themes are boo-boo or I don't have the materials for them and then I have to wait another 2 weeks until the next theme is picked and I still might not wanna do or have the time to do it.

I'm not saying voting is bad and I get its a competition but at the same time, I feel bad for folks who get 0 votes - that's discouraging on them. If I ever had 0 votes I'd get butt hurt cause no one thought my entry was good enough and so on...

Like I said to a few mods, I think voting should be left to deciding on the next theme perhaps?

Anyways, its a challange yeah - you challenge yourself but eliminate competition and people won't trip over a title.

I mean seriously, its just a title - not prize money or something. If it where that, then hell yeah keep voting in biggrin.gif

On my mobile btw, so I can't vote for yes.

I think voting should stay....no back to back winners seems fair....not that I participate hardly ever......but when I did and I got a vote or two.....it made me feel good!!!

and I agree with Celly I feel bad for those who get 0 votes ......I must admit that on occasion I had voted for the underdog.........NOT b/c I didn't want the same person to win again......it strictly b/c I know how good it felt to get even one vote.....so I want to pass that good feeling onsmile.gif

it wouldn't be the same without votes!!

Wow, well then the people who get 0 votes, aren't even voting for themselves, so I guess they feel someone else is doing a better job then they are. Enough to be classy enough to vote for them. If they're not even going to vote for themselves, why should we feel bad? We're all mature girls here... i think we can all agree on that.

I truly think people will lose interest without the voting... I know for me, I don't post any d2b's now, and I wouldn't if voting was eliminated. It is sad that Manders was a scapegoat... I think LaChinita was too. They have awesome makeup skills, and I think everyone is a little intiminated by that. I know I personally never looked at the contest as a popularity contest. There were a lot of times I voted for Manders two or three times in a row... then i might have voted for someone else two or three times in a row. It wasn't which member I liked the best or who was my friend. It was all about who had the best makeup to me. If it was Manders three times in a row, too bad... she deserves it.

I voted no simply because this is a challenge. Making something beautiful on your face and earning the most votes is "the challenge", am I correct?

That's sad if anyone is getting their feelings hurt because of it and I hope it all works out, D2B looks like a lot of fun.

I voted No. I think we should be able to vote. However, some people may feel discouraged from entering the contest or even voting if the same people keep winning (granted I don't blame them for winning b/c their amazing work speaks for itself).

So maybe a revision in the rules is what needs to be looked at. Maybe you can revise it so that a person cannot win back-to-back. For ex. if they win this week, they win. But if next week they win again, instead of winning the challenge, the person with the next highest votes would win instead to prevent a back to back win. I don't know if that makes sense or helps.

I voted no, because it does distinguish the FOTD's and DTB's a bit more than just having a theme, it also makes people try harder! In addition, I am in NO WAY trying to be critical of ANYONE who voted yes, so please, please PLEASE don't take this the wrong way, but I don't have any other good way to say this, but the way the poll is going now, there are far more people who think it should stay than think it should go away, which is not to say one side is *more* right than another, just that apparently, some of those who have been critical of the voting, and other things, seem to just be critical for the sake of it, because it doesn't seem like they have comeon here to vote for what they feel strongly about, which means, getting rid of voting probably wouldn't do what it would be intended for, which is to make *those* people happy. I doubt some of them even know this poll exists. No offense to any of you who did vote yes! I know you do care about what happens here! smile.gif

This won't always works, though, because the when winner of the previous DTB picks out the theme for another DTB, it's not always the very next DTB. So that won't solve the problem of back to back winners if that's what we are trying to prevent.

I TOTALLY agree. Even if Manders and voting spontaneously COMBUSTED, there would STILL be something wrong with DTB's lol j/k wink.gif

I agree with Sheikah, even though I didn't win, it felt good that I got a few votes. It was like "Hey, those compliments you got, weren't empty, I decided to use my only vote on YOU" smile.gif Feels nice smile.gif

Pinkbundles, it makes perfect sense smile.gif Actually, it makes no difference to me if we have back to back winners or not, but we are to have a rule about it, this is the simplest way to do it. If the person who won the previous week also has the highest number of votes the next week, then just pick the runner up for winner and the next highest voted entry after them for runner up. That way no one has to sit out any DTB's (what a shame to have to sit out your own them-picked DTB you are all excited for if you waited so long to do it! Even if you get to do an inspiration pic, I bet it's not the same!), and the previous winner still has the chance to be part of the healthy competition, who knows, they could end up being the runner-up the second time around!

I like this idea. I didnt vote since it doesnt really fit w/either choice.

This is a real difficult decision. But in the end I chose No

I truly believe that competition brings out the best in what we can do. You want to be the best. so you want to do the best you can to win.

But def. something should be done about back to back winners, to allow others I guess a better chance, or so there is not so much drama.

And I too like looking at everybodys work and who captured the theme best!

I'm sorry! I guess I didn't do a good job at keeping the poll clear. lol. By "Please keep the challenges as is" I meant please keep the voting. lol.

The mods will discuss the issue of back-to-back winners and any other issues brought up in this poll once the poll has finished. smile.gif

ETA: I fixed the poll now. smile.gif

hehe no problem SXG =).

K, I voted!

I love seeing all the faces, Im new here so I havent gotten the guts to try yet. My makeup collection is also pretty limited atm, so a lot of items Id need/want, I just dont have.

Also some of the stuff I may never use again and I just cant see spending money for a one time deal =/.

Id also love to see some how to's from the winners but I know how to's arent something everyone enjoys doing but I see some entries and Im like "HOW did they do *that*, so cool!"

No, don't remove voting, it's good to know how good your skills are and there is no losers, everybody have chance to learn and improve. To get critic is well good thing to look at your mistakes, analyze and etc.

if people have concerns with the voting part maybe we should make it discreet instead of displaying how many people get how many votes? I mean voting is essential for someone to win the challenge BUT you dont have to display by how many votes someone wins. That would be the best way to please both crowds dont U think? Keep the voting but make it private so this way more people would participate in the challenges not scared of how many votes they may or may not get...this way u just have a winner and thats it.

I think this is a great idea - keeping the votes private. Not only does it give suspense as to who is winning, but also it prevents people from voting based on how others have voted (it may sound lame, but it probably happens).

    • It's awesom to have the national lipstick day could really amazed the women and girls ! They will ove to have different variety of shade and color ...
    • cool, thanks for the tips!  I like all of k-beauty products I've tried so far but I haven't tried any foundations yet. The best foundation I've found is FitMe and it's super cheap but I want to change brands.  FitMe is a matte finish.
    • I mostly prefer k-beauty products. I use Missha foundation, I have been using this from last 3 years. It has different shades we can choose according to our skintone. And also I have suggested this to my friends and cousins, they all are every satisfied with this products. I always prefer to shop from Althea beauty store for all k-beauty products, because it provides best discounts on products.
    • I have been backsliding, but backsliding in a better way than before. The money has felt tighter than normal lately. I decided not to be too hard on myself, because part of that was from losing my second job due to COVID. Also I joined a new church, and really want to keep up with the tithing. That has become important to me. I found I need to tighten the budget and cut back on too much takeout/delivery [Door Dash is my vice]. That's hard for me. I was not budgeting well, and I found myself the week before Father's Day with not enough money for gifts and food that week, so I opened a new credit card. I used that to buy gifts and food, then some more food and takeout. I feel really badly about that.  BUT my old self would have just kept the card, and gone shopping for beauty items with it too, and I would have given up on my No Buy/Project Use It Up. NOW I caught myself after about two weeks of this backsliding, cut up the card, took the card number out of the computer. Because if it's there, it's too much temptation. And I kept right on using my old beauty stuff, I was not even tempted to buy new beauty stuff, just food!  Now I will wait for the bill for the new credit card to come in the mail and work on paying it off. The fact that I am rebounding like this instead of going back to my old behavior is a really good sign! I do need to work on the eating out. Getting Nutrisystem was not such a good idea. The dry food is hard to eat and it is pretty expensive too. But I will keep trying to change my food habits. Until now, I have not really had to do that to achieve my goals. We're moving into the higher goals now.
