So I have decided to share some mental ramblings with all you beautiful people!

Okay so it seems like as our technology is forcefully changing (hence: the federal television conversion laws for 2009 that will mandate that all tv recievers are converted from analog to digital); I guess so is our makeup.

Lately I've been noticing that alot of companys are launching their versions of 'upgraded' makeup like Cargo, Kryolan, Kett, etc; all with catchy names like FX, digital makeup, high definition makeup, blu_ray, so on and so on.

So while this makeup is supposed to be even more finely pigmented and milled, and sepcifically dedicated to providing full coverage while looking natural under high definition filiming; my question is...is this all just hype?

I mean; how much more different or any better can this be than our faves already? I smell a lot of gimmicks on the rise.

I recently posted a thread about Cargo's blu_ray line but then I had to check myself about it because how can something soooo "innovative" be sooo darn cheap?! (They will sell you the entire collection for 60 bucks at sephora!!!)

So does this mean that our every so lovely favorites like those amongst Mac, Chanel, and Dior, will fade into the dust? Are these items no longer superior and will all of a sudden become banned off of hollywood sets? I DON'T THINK SO!!!

While I must admit that all of the propoganda is super eye-catching, and yes I may even try a a few products along the way, I simply will continue to hold my breath until I really see something that blows my mind away.

*sigh*

That's how marketing works, same as all the makeup companies coming up with new products, new eyeshadow shades and stuff like that, they are all the same they just change the names.

I think the foundations and powders *might* be worth it if I were actually working in television being filmed in high def!

Since that isn't a part of my daily life, I'll still with my mmu, my colorstay and my HyperReal...or whatever else seems to be needed on a given day.

i am sure there is a diffrence, but i can only see porn stars using the hd make up cause they have to make everything look perfict.

and i know when they first had HD tv and stuff cosmetic surgery for porn stars was at an all time high cause improfections you couldnt see in regular stuff you can see in hd.

but i cant see the every day person needing "HD" make up. after a certian point the eye can not detect diffrences, further more most people are not being recorded dailly, at least im not

in CArgo's defense, I have a friend that has the set and she looks like a star because of it and i'm glad it's just 60 bucks because she's working on min wage, LOL

I saw CARGO's stuff on someone and it looked so amazing. I saw MUFE's high definition foundation and really wanted to try it anyway. All of their stuff is pretty good that I've tried.

i didn't buy it either until i bought one product that wasn't hi-def and one product that was. i took a picture with MUFE's Velvet matt + in my exact color match and found that it still no matter how i applied it showed up like a mask when i took a picture. with graftobian hi def foundation the picture was flawless no mask no cake nothing but beauty. am i saying go and buy it no, but there is definitely a big difference. whenever i wear it around people think it's my natural skin tone which is odd because i feel like i am wearing makeup and to me i know i'm wearing makeup. i will have to try other formulas to see if it still holds up as supreme but as for right now i am sold on hi-def makeup. it's not bad if you have the extra dough there's no reason not to try to look like a rock star

just don't fall for everyone's HD formula because some things just aren't worth it like HD lipstick

When I upgrade my face to a higher resolution then I'll upgrade my makeup!! Even thought about downgrading!! Low res, 4 colors and black....

Karren, you crack me up!
I'd totally take a downgrade in resolution these days. Workin' the Retin A and liking the peeling for therapeutic reasons, but it SUCKS A** to not be able to wear "real" foundation.

And honey, I am ALL about the foundation!

It's not all hype - maybe half hype. If you are under studio lighting and filmed in HiDef you'll be sooo thankful for the finer pigments that HiDef make-up offers. You'll be even more thankful if your makeup was airbrushed.

Over-the-counter brands have over the years already reduced the pigment size in the makeup, more than meeting most everyday needs. Buy a top quality brand HiDef or not and it more than likely meet your everyday basic needs ..... and desires to looking fab.

I think it's a good thing that we're having all these kind of different make up and texture because not everyone skin work the same, just because MAC work for some, don't mean it'll work for better.

If you think about it, hundreds of years ago, people have their "good" make up then also, but then better make up comes along. It's not as if MAC was created in one day. I think that it's great that company are looking at different method for their product. I mean, think about it. People use flower back then, smash it up, and consider that as good make up. Our make up now, is probably a gimmick to them back then. As technology advance, we advance... I don't see what's so bad about better make up? My mom make up 40 years ago are nothing compare to the make up nowaday.

Lol!
It's just a marketing scheme IMO!

This is all a marketing ploy and all cosmetic companies do it. They come up with new and improved products but don't explain really why it's so much better than the stuff they were preaching yesterday.

For example, take one of the leading chains, Estee Lauder. They have a gazillion number of skincare products and yet they keep adding improvements which is understandable. Gotta keep up with the times. But if it's really an improvement from their last invention, then why still carry the less superior one?

It leaves the consumer confused and in the end, they will most likely end up with something that cost too much and does so little, without really knowing what they bought in the first place.

Hi:

It's not a marketing scheme. Because the technology is so advanced, the makeup had to step up. My boss I and were discussing this last week. He was looking at some HD televisions a couple of weekends ago and said the first thing he noticed was how you could see every pore, line, anything. The skin was so revealing instead of having a flawless look. So he asked me how I as a mua would meet the demands of HDTV. I explained that several companies had already come out with hi-def makeup.

I'm looking forward to trying hi-def makeup from MUFE and OCC (attending the NY Makeup Show in May). I think Temptu also has it for the airbrush systems, so I'll be looking at that too.

I think its probably great for people that will be on HDTV, and their makeup artists to have that for them. It probably makes a difference. But for me, or any other everday person? I dont think its necesarry.

And if you take a picture and your foundation looks masky on you, its probably just what your using or how your applying it. My foundation is not HD special or anything special, and it looks natural and flawless in pictures.
