Try doing a search here on what are some good makeup brushes. You'll find numerous threads on this subject. I know some good ones are MAC, Sephora, Essence of Beauty, Posh, Sonia Kashuk but there are plenty of other brands out there.

Depends on your budget?

There's Sonia K who has some good brushes on the cheap.

I bought my set off eBay from seller BunBunCity... no brand name.

Then there are the ones from MAC & Sephora which are higher end and cost more.

Ha ha, words right out of my mouth...

I have brushes from:

the craft store (cheap)

Face Secrets @ Sally's (cheap)

Sonia K @ Target (affordable)

Essence of Beauty @ CVS (affordable)

Sephora @ Sephora, lol (affordable - pricey)

MAC (high end/pricey)

Shu Uemura (Higher end /more pricey)

And the brushes you buy should depend on they type of application u want, so you know where to budget...

I have no high end brushes. Of my affordable brushes I like my Face Secrets. I find their selection to be limited, so I have found a few brushes that they don't offer at K Mart in their Image Essentials brush line. So far I like the Image Essentials brushes a lot, but I want to give it some time before I recommend them(I have had my Face Secrets for quite awhile). I liked the Sonia Kashuk brushes at first, but not too long after buying them the bristles started to puff out and separate. Actually, the two I don't like were travel size. I do have the full size large crease brush and it's one of my most used brushes. So maybe that is the difference.

also there's a new brand at walgreen's called ecotools that are affordable and pretty good...

I really like my NYX brushes (grey handle). The only comparisons I have are Sephora and Sonia, smashbox, and one mac. My NYX ones are softer than all of them.

I have a whole colletion of MAC brushes, and they work really well. before I could afford them I bought all Sonia Kashuk brushes... and I loved them too. I still keep a few in my purse because I don't want to ruin my MAC ones.

I brushes I'm really tempted to buy are the body and soul brushes Carmindy uses on WNTW. They are sooo pretty. I'm assuming they must work well for her to use them.

I have a range of brushes from high end to drugstore brands that I really like. Sonia Kashuk (Target), Quo (Canadian drugstore brand), and MAC are my favorites. I also heard Essence of Beauty (EOB) which is sold at select drugstores in the USA are suppose to be good.

Here are some threads on brushes that I hope will help you.

I like MAC brushes as well as the Kashuk Tools (the ones with the black handles at Target).

i bought some brushes off of bun bun city, and personally I think they are pretty terrible quality. If you are expecting high quality, these brushes will not give you that. They are however, cheaper in price then drug stores.

I personally think its worth the little extra investment to buy quality brushes. However, you def dont have to pay a high end price!

There are some great deals on smashbox brush sets on ebay. Although I bought my 5 piece brush set for 60 dollars (but a 125 dollar value), they are now bidding for 30 dollars on ebay.

125 dollars worth of QUALITY brushes for 30 dollars is a steal!

I got one powder brush from the list of MAC dupes EnKore posted, and it turned out to be junk. A lot of the eye shadow dupes he showed were similar in size and shape, but just brush them on your face. Maybe I am just sensitive, but I found them to be uncomfortable(and kinda scratchy) on my skin. I love my inexpensive brushes for what my budget is, but I am definitely going to invest in all MAC brushes. I have resisted the cost thus far, but I have finally accepted I need to shell out the dough $$$$$

drugstore: walgreens: ecotools

cvs: essence of beauty

ulta: japonesque

target: sonia kashuk

department store: mac, smashbox

online: coastal scents

Bobbi Brown makes some excellent brushes, if you can find them.. really soft, great if you have sensitive skin..

Ok question....does anyone know where I can find a similar brush to MAC's 219 pencil brush?? I have been looking all over and it seems like no one else has a pencil brush! Plus the one mac has is just way to much for that little brush. HELP!
