One would think that people who bleach their skin to be lighter are self hating. But what about all these girls who tan? would you call that self hating too

? Do you think tanning is different than skin bleaching? Tanning is harmful to the skin too so why is it more acceptable?

Just wondering what your thoughts are on tanning and skin bleaching.

Tanning happens NATURALLY. That is how your skin will react to sunshine by producing compounds that make you darker and better to protect yourself from too much sun. Tanning may be harmful, like everything else, when you get too much sun, however, exposure to the sun means your body is making vitamin D (something your body requires).

Bleaching is not something your skin does on its own.

Light skin is so desirable in places like India and Jamaica that the cosmetics industries are continually pitching skin-lightening products to women.

you are forgeting that not all tanning is natural. some women go for things shch as tanning beds and all that

I think the entire concept here is that we should all start being satisfied with what we have, starting with our skin color. We need not spend way a lot just to be able to change our overall looks that God made us perfect for.

My thoughts are why do people care about what other people are doing with their own body.   People should worry about themselves before they worry about if others are "self hating" or not.
