When I dress up, I usually do it indoors, but after a rather chilly evening in a rather short skirt and sweater, I am convinced I definitely do need to get a woman's coat. The problem is, I won't be wearing it a lot and I want something that's versatile enough that I can wear it out to the grocery store or to the club. I suppose I could buy two coats, but I really don't want to spend a lot of money on something I won't be using that much. Any pointers from the board fashion mavens would be appreciated.

I have seen some really cute satin like material coats that are a babydoll cut and knee length. That kind would look sophisticated with jeans or even formal with a snazzy dress. Here are some ideas thought I warn you I am a little on the Frou Frou side. I like more feminine cuts so they may not be high fashion enough for most tastes. But any one of these would work either look you are speaking of. All of this came from the Nordstrom website.

yep, ditto.

I agree that a nice, traditional, black coat would be the most versatile and looks hot if you buy one that flatters and fits properly.

Right away I noticed the black one. I really like that and I'm glad to see so many other people with similiar tastes. This weekend I'm going to look for something like that.

I prefer coats which are double breasted btw... otherwise you have a cold 'v' where the coat is open, and you don't always want to wear a scarf...

good luck with the coat search!

I think a nice pea coat would be perfect. You can wear it when you're dressing casual or dressing up.

black one forsure it will go with everything, i also think haveing a second white or cream color is good so i say get two..lol

I was also going to suggest a Pea Coat. They are so cute and can look good dressed up or down. I have my eye on several right now at Macys, I work there and we have been getting in a lot of really cute coats.
