As i am in my 40s the signs of ageing are showing their ugly head for me. I have to wear eye glasses for reading in the last year. Anything close I can't do without my specs. But long distance is greater than 1 meter (or yard) is crystal clear.

Anyway I find it hard to apply eye make up, especially eyeliner very well as I cannot wear my glasses while applying the make up. What I have been doing is using a big magnifying glass held in one hand and I apply with the other at the mirror.

Another problem for me is I am partly blind in one eye (i have a cateract in my RH Eye) so when i close the good eye to do it, I am looking though my blurry eye to do it. Not so easy lol

Anyway, I was wondering what some of you do to apply eye make up if you need to wear glasses.

well I used to wear glasses and I never really found a good way to do it. it was difficult to use brushes because i would need to get so close to the mirror that I couldn't fit them in there. I really didn't ever find a solution, but best of luck. I know exactly how you feel because I used to experience it myself

Applying makeup while wearing glasses is a chore that I have never mastered and I have wearing specs since the age of twelve and putting make, somewhat regularly, up two - three years later. The magnifier mirror is of little or no help.

I came across this recently, check out this website:

They look weird but it's not like you'll wear them out.

Good Luck!

I'm going to show my mom that website, so thanks! She's always complaing about her glasses makeing her not be able to do her makeup right. Good post!

anyway, as i'm myopic i don't have much problem applying eye makeup, i just take my glasses off and glue my nose on the mirror if i have to, lol.

but if you need to keep your glasses on, the only way i've found is to wear your glasses on the tip of your nose, and with a bit of let's say gym with your wrist, i managed to apply e/s and touch up my eyeliner that way.

I have glasses... The bifocal gradational kind... And I bought a small magnifying mirror (10X I think) that has suction cups on the back.. So I just stick it on the bathroom mirror and works great.. Especially for plucking.. And eye makeup... I can see every little hair polical.. And every imperfection in my skin.

Guess if my eyes get worse then my skin won't look so bad after all.. Sigh.....

Hi,
You can use either a 5x, 7x, 10x or 14x magnification mirror. I also have the same problem. Using this type of mirror (I use a 10x) allows me to apply makeup without wearing my glasses.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of your replys.

Contacts would be useless on me unless I remove them after appliyng the eye make up. I can see clearly anything 2-3ft and beyond, I only wear glasses for reading and close up work.

Magnifying Makeup Glasses This product is interesting, this might work for me. I might get a pair of those thanks trezdaez.

The 10X maginfying mirror may also work, Ill have to go to a store that has them and see how clear I can see with it or maybe i'll see where i can buy a magifying glass with suction cups as the magifying glass up hard against the mirror does work for me, just need to be able to attach it.

Thank you for all the links Aquilah

As soon as I put my glasses on the tip of my nose, I am looking over the top of the glasses and I my eye is just a blurr. Funny how we are all different and what works for one person won't work for another.

Thanks again for all your help any more suggestions will be appreciated.

My suggestion is to try putting on eyeliner with your eyes open! I do that with my liquid liner, and it makes my lines much more even
