Mine too thats for sure!

I still plan on making an order when I get my 20% off but it wont be anywhere near 125.00. No biggie, I just dont think its cool and I dont see any logic behind that. Except maybe limited quantities.

What a bummer! Sorry for getting anyone excited. I decided that I would rather double points, so Im not going to take advantage of this promo. Who knows how many samples they actually have to pick from, and a lot I bet we have seen. So meh. I'll probably regret it, but my debit card will be happy.

Targeted marketing?

I would be curious as to who they marketed to.  People who have bought a lot or maybe people who have never bought?

If there are limited quantities wouldn't it be better to send the code to everyone and say while supplies last like Sephora does?

It seems like anyone who subscribes to birchbox would be a target for samples, though. I don't know if maybe they have very specific samples that they are going to offer and thats how they chose, but it just seems weird.

Well, think of it like the casinos--if you put down a lot of money there, then you will sometimes get better bounceback cash....but sometimes they up the amount for folks who HAVEN'T played in a while to get them back in. I have a feeling it's targeted to purchasing behavior.

Yeah probably. I really want to know now though. We are setting up targeted marketing right now at my job, based on what the user buys rather than what they tell us they are interested in, and its all very neat/weird how it works out.

Marketing IS fascinating (to me, anyway). Kind of ironic, since I'm not the target demographic for a lot of the things that I purchase. Ah well.

Who the target is is a good question. I got the email, and although I have bought from the shop, I wouldn't say I'm a big spender. I thing $50 is the most I've spent at one time. I have never gotten a "special" box like Vichy or Teen Vogue, so maybe it has something to do with that?

I agree.  When I got my MBA my favorite part was studying the marketing and business plans of different companies.  I would love to know that info on Birchbox.  Maybe I will google them and see what I can dig up.  I am such a nerd.

So I contacted them to answer some questions about it:

"Thanks for getting in touch with us! I asked around and how the promotion works is that the people who were emailed have a special code in their account that's activated once they make their purchase and use the code we sent out. The promotion was sent to customers who had previously spent a certain amount on our website and unfortunately since you weren't emailed there's no code in your account to activate. I'm so sorry for the disappointment, but we have tons of other interesting opportunities and promotions coming up!

Please let me know if I can help you with anything else and have a great day!"

So if you didn't get the email, you can't use it, but I'm still impressed with how polite their customer service is. Oy. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

yeah, it's nice they gave you an honest reply.

I received my 9 month 20% discount today which tipped me over on buying a clarisonic, but I can only use one coupon! I emailed them since the only reason I really tipped over was the prospect of getting the clarisonic discounted and the sample closet. Hopefully they can make magic happen!

I don't think its for a specific month, i got a 20% off code today and it is my 15th month :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> just trying to drum up some business in the shop is my guess.

Just placed an order using the sample closet code yesterday, and today I got the 20% off coupon code. I haven't ordered the Clarisonic, and the discount plus bonus points bring it to half price...that's pretty hard to resist.

It's every 3 months that they send the 20% off code.

My first one specifically said it was my welcome offer and the one I got yesterday said it was my 3 month offer.. both were 20% off coupon codes

What changed your mind about Birchbox?  You had said before in this thread that you were very disenchanted with Birchbox and I know you've had a lot of disappointment with them in the past.  Do you think you'll drop your subscription once you use up your points?  I'm really liking Birchbox lately, especially with all of the disappointment around MyGlam (no Jan. bags for me, blah samples, bait and switch awesome Dec. bags and then not so great stuff . . . ) but I think it's really a personal choice which sub people like better.  I got an okay January Birchbox, wasn't too excited but then really ended up liking the creams, a great February and now I'm very happy with March.  Is your experience with them getting better?  Please let us know how the sample closet experience went and what was available and what you ended up choosing.

I'm SOOOO VERY JEALOUS!  Sorry for the caps, but I really mean it!

Half off a Clarisonic is pretty hard to resist.  I'm thinking of getting one too.  Pretty pricey but all the reviews are great and if I can get a great deal I might just take the plunge.  Right now I'm using a cheapy Neutrogena vibrating cleanser thing and I even think that helps cleansers work better so I think I'd be blown away by a Clarisonic.

I haven't really changed my mind, sad to say. I decided to use the sample closet promo because I really need a travel dryer, and I was just looking for a mini flat iron, so I figured I'd by them from Birchbox and get to choose a few samples. In order to use the promo, I have to be an active member on April 1, so that means one more month. I think everyone got that 20% off, which maybe was sent because of recent issues. The discount combined with points makes it impossible for me to resist the Clarisonic. Birchbox really has an awesome bonus point thing going on! I really am sad to cancel...I've loved this service for a long time. But I'm no longer getting products that suit me, and I'm really disappointed by the fact that things are so inequitable. Some get great boxes, some don't. Some get promos and special boxes, some don't. Some get defective products replaced, some don't. Some get TV box replacements because they opted in, some don't. I'll definitely post about my sample closet experience. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out well.

I got a reply back that I couldnt in any way stack my sample closet and 20%, so no clarisonic and no sample closet for me.

I know I am late to the game here, but the trick to maximize the Sephora samples is to order your stuff in increments of $50. You get free shipping, a chance to use all the codes on the specials page and you get to open a ton of boxes!

LOL. At least they're not Sephora where for $500 you get the equivalent of a lancome GWP and get to use one measly code at checkout.

The Birchbox one actually seems generous by comparison now that I think of it, esp because you get to choose your samples.
