Yes, just make an appointment with your doctor or a clinic to discuss your options since there are quite a few, depending on your medical history, preferences, cost etc. Your doctor will have to do an exam-Pap Smear. There are so many BCP(Birth control pills available, some that can multi-task if you have skin issues ex Yaz or Diane or others with varying degrees of hormones. HTH

You definatly want to see your OB. They will examine you and also talk to you to find what you are wanting out of it. These days there are SO many options that you really need to sit down and talk to your Dr. about it!

Good luck girlie! Let us know if you have any more questions.

Yeah, you need to go to the gyno to make sure everything is ok and so they can prescribe the right one. As far as I know, condoms and spermicide are the only OTC ones you can get. I was thinking they are going to make birth control OTC sometime, but I could be wrong. They do make the morning after pills OTC but they arent as reliable, and should be used in emergencys in my opinion. The gyno can also prescribe the depo shot (very reliable, I use it b/c my blood pressure skyrockets on the b.p. pill) also the UTC thing (I think it's called) reliable also, and the thing you put inside (CANT REMEMBER, I am tired) but it isnt as reliable). Anways, birth control pill is good as long as you have no problems, and take it regularly, and dont throw up or take supplemen that make it not work well. Ok, I will shut up now, lol

I wouldn't think you'd need your medical records from past doctors to get on some BC. Just make sure you tell them if you have any problems, or are on any medications.

As far as the types of BC goes... there is the pill, Nuvaring, IUD, and the depo shot that I know of. Just ask for info on all the types and pick the one that you think would work best for you.

Good luck!

I agree with everybody above, you need to get a prescription fro your doc.... You dont necessarily need to see an OB for this; if you have a primary care doc (internist) he/she can do that too.
