If I'm not mistaken(could very well be wrong)Black soaps contain Coal tar which is supposed to be soothing for skin/hair conditions such as dermatitis, eczema, dandruff.psoriasis etc..Coal tar and even Sulfar in small amounts(along with select other ingredients)Help with flair ups of the afore mentioned condition

ahh, ok. so do they smell like dandruff shampoo? i suppose i dont need one if i dont have any skin problems.

im not sure.....is that different from the one alli mentioned? do you know of any sites where i could get more info on the black african soap?

Maybe you can add black soap to your line, Greenlady?
BTW did you do the artwork for your soap packages on the computer or how did you do it? You have a knack for spunky/cool/fresh looking products. I didn't even want to open my soap for the longest time because it smelled so good and looked so cool in the package. I displayed it in our guest bathroom. I am still working on my bar of corriander.

Halo..the black soap I'm refering to does smell slightly like dandruff shampoo though it seems there something totally different out there according to Greenlady..She's the soap queen so I'm sure her info is more accurate

Shea butter is great, and since african black soap made with 100% shea, it retain some of it beneficial properties... I keep shea with me all the time, small tin in my purse, lol. It works on dry hands, chapped lips, insects bites, burns, it really neat... More info on shea you can find here:

Cali, thank you fo compliments on my labels... I drew lady by hand, and converted it into vector art later... I like the hand-drawn effect, since I wanted the look to be more whimsical/cool, and not upscale/corporate...

I do a lot of packaging at work, and a lot of graphics for soapers all around the world, too... It cool to be graphic designer and soaper at same time

Alli, I've heard of coal soap, too... But I never used one... So I cannot comment on that...

Man I would LOVE to see all the neat packaging. In fact, maybe I'll work on an article for it here. I also love the funky/fun home-touch versus the corporate look. For example, "Dirty Girl" cosmetics has that fun/decorative look.Check out their fun style; it is reminiscent of yours and ROCKS in the decor dept:

I use lush coalface and it seems to clear up my skin really well. As I have oily skin i think that the african black soap that you're all talking about would be too rich for my skin, but it does sound wonderful!

greenlady: thanks for taking the time to type all that out. good to know! ive been using coal face for a long while now, and i cant say that its had any effect on my skin, one way or the other.
