TMZ has confirmed Britney Spears booked herself with the LAPD tonight around 9:20 PM PDT on misdemeanor charges of hit and run.
She walked into the Van Nuys Valley jail at 9:25 and was booked at 9:26 this evening.
The L.A.City Attorney charged Spears in September with one count of hit and run causing property damage and one count of driving without a valid California license. Both charges are misdemeanors, each carrying a maximum of 6 months in jail.
The charges stem from an August 6 incident in L.A. where Spears was in a private parking lot in the San Fernando Valley.

Um... about time? It looks like Brit must have turned herself in after her "open casting" for dancers (it was supposed to end at 9:00 PM PDT). I'll update this entry if anything new develops, if there are any pictures/video of her at the police station, or (of course) if her mugshot is released tonight.
UPDATE, 1:27 AM EDT:
Usmagazine.com is reporting that Brit began the booking process about an hour ago and she is likely still going through it. They quote LAPD Sgt. Mike Lopez as saying that the process is: “She comes in and we put her information into computer, fingerprint her, lifescan and electronically scan hands and palms as well, and photograph her. She will be issued a release from custody citation, which tells her next court appearance.†They have this picture of Britney, driving around tonight before turning herself in:
When it comes to the wig (should Britney have kept it on), Us quotes Lopez as saying that “If a person is wearing a wig and it looks like she is trying to disguise herself we would ask her to take it off,†Lopez says. “But we will not ask people to remove extensions.â€
UPDATE 2, 1:37 AM EDT:
TMZ reports the following: Wearing a black mini dress, black leather jacket and sporting silver chains around her neck, she walked into the Van Nuys Valley jail tonight. LAPD told us "at approximately 9:25 PM Miss Britney Spears checked into the Van Nuys County Jail for a court ordered booking. She was put through standard booking procedures which included booking photographs, fingerprinting and collection of information. Britney was at all time cooperative in the process. She was there approximately 45 minutes." We're also told she was never put in a holding cell, and she was polite and courteous to the officers. We're also told cops offered her the back entrance- but she declined, opting to go in the front door.
