Bronzers - what is their story?

As much as I love make-up, I am not sure that I understand what they are for. Is it to add contour to the face or to give all over color? I guess I am just not sure what their primary use is?

Please help... I am clueless.

Just to pretty much give you a 'warmth" where the sun would hit... makes you have a glow - like you've been outside in the sun

Adds a sun-kissed glow & warmth IF applied properly. However, many celebrities tend to go overboard w/the bronzer & end up looking like an oopmah loompah.

I use it as a contour & always alone w/out the presence of blush or a highlighter.

I'm not a pro with bronzers either and I've started to use them more recently. It can be used for contouring or as all over color. I just recently read an article about bronzers and it said the right way to wear a bronzer these days is as all over color and the obvious countoring is out.

i tan year round so i use bronzers as a blush mostly. but generally they are used where the sun would hit your face. cheeks nose chin forehead and not too much swirl the brush tap excess and blend it on.

I've never been a big bronzer fan, but I might just try it this summer. I usually wear similar clothes all year round due the unpredictable nature of british weather, but this year I'm feeling a bit different. This year I'm planning on getting the sandals out as quickly as possible, and possibly getting the fake tan out for my legs. So this year might be the first time bronzer makes it into my train case.

Interesting... the reason why I ask is that at the MAC seminar the MA was telling us which bronzer color would be best for us since he used it in his demonstration. He used it more for contour and I wasn't sure whether I would be able to make it look right without making my face look "dirty". I have Benefit's Hoola (which is a bronzer) and what I do is use a fantail brush to lightly apply it all over my face.

A benefit SA put Hoola on me once and I just looked dirty, maybe it's a bit too dark for me. I'm kind of more interested in trying gel formula ones 'cos they're supposed to stay put of r longer and don't cling to dry spots.

I agree with Janelle too- it's supposed to make you look like you have a tan. You can't go too dark, or like Gail said, you'll look like an oompa loompa.

Since it's sunny here in Hawaii all year long, I can use bronzer all the time and look natural. Bronzer is not really recommended if you can't tan all year long where you are (and I don't mean in a tanning salon!).

NARS Laguna is a very popular bronzer. If you're darker, like a MAC NC35 and up, you may want to try NARS Casino since it's darker than Laguna.

i have a mac bronzer that i got long time ago that's matte. the ones they have now are all shimmery. but i use it as a contour for the hollows of my cheeks, my temples, the sides of my nose, under my chin, and just a light dusting on my forehead,nose and chin. i use very little though. because i don't want to look weird. i don't know if i even use enough to make a difference in what i'm trying to do. lol. i just tell myself that it did.

i bought mountain high(?) that came from the diana collection which is lighter so i can use that as an all over face bronzer.

i honestly think girls with fair-light skin should stay away from bronzers. it looks so bad when you have a sun-kissed look and the rest of your body is very light! it looks way too artificial. SO many girls at my school do this - during the winter, nonetheless! it looks horrible! i just wanna go up to them with a makeup remover towel sometimes and start rubbing.

I love using bronzers on light makeup days! Makes me look like I just got in from tanning, but I agree...doesn't look right in the winter!

I love using Clinique Golden Glow blush (my favorite blush!) as a bronzer when it's just starting to get hot out (like now). It's very subtle, it's actually a blush, not bronzer.

I like mixing BE warmth with BE true for a shimmery bronzer. Warmth alone looks kinda dirty on me. This combo is a more obvious since true is glittery, but looks nice as I get tanner!
