We drink it every morning, relying in it to wake us up and face our daily challenge. Now we are being told that it has the same effect on our skin as it does on our mood. Increasingly, caffeine is showing up in various skin creams one can buy off the shelf at any supermarket or pharmacist. Large multi-nationals including the likes of Avon and L’Oreal are adding caffeine to their products and big claims are being made about the effects of caffeine on our skin.
Some of these claims include: Reduction of puffiness and blackness around the eyes, decreasing of cellulite, the ability to firm and tighten skin and anti-wrinkle qualities.
Some experts agree with the seemingly magical properties of caffeine.
“actually I believe we are only scratching the surface in terms of what caffeine can do for our skin, evidence suggest that it might be a real key to youthful looking skin…..with possible health benefits too†noted Dr Daniel Goldman, a Manhattan dermatologist.
One company really taking Caffeine’s seemingly miraculous qualities is the French/Australian skin-care company Avantage Botanique.
Avantage Botanique has released a range of skin-care products made, in fact packed, with freshly brewed organic coffee. These products include a facial exfoliator made with coffee grinds and an all-day moisturizer largely comprising of freshly brewed and concentrated coffee. The all-day moisturiser has the added benefit of gently tinting the skin a warm bronze colour.
“We have done numerous tests and the anti-ageing qualities of coffee mixed with other ingredients is very obvious. Skin treated with caffeine looks years younger†noted Stephanie Constant, Avantage Botanique’s research director.
Well who would have thought?
