Clear mascara as a lash primer??

Has anyone tried using clear mascara as a lash primer? I was wondering if it might be a cheaper but still effective alternative to Clinique's Lash Building Primer. Or does anyone know of any international (or British) drugstore brands that are now doing their own lash primer? Thanks.

I've tried clear as a primer & found that it's ok, but not as good as the real thing. If you're able to locate L'Oreal, check out their Double-Extend mascara. One end is a primer & the other the mascara. Also try English Ideas--their primer is rather nice. I think BeneFit has a primer, but ask Scarlette to be certain.

Also... Maybelline has XXL mascara - that is also double-ended

Thanks guys but I'm looking for a separate primer because I'm using Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara already. I used Maybelline XXL before this and it was quite good but the Clinique one is my favourite.
