Colored eyeshadow, too "hooker-ish" ?

I was watching a youtube video (wont mention who) where she had an alter-ego who was showing us what not to dress like, and she mentioned something about the alter-ego's blue eyeshadow and "looking like a hooker". I wear colored eyeshadow a lot for everyday looks and I never thought of it that way. This morning when I did my makeup I felt kind if weird putting on my *blue* shadow. I think it depends on how you wear it, and what you wear it with; if it is more dramatic or subtle; I definitely never considered it hooker-ish. But, like I said, now I feel weird when I put it on! :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> What do you guys think about it?

If you like your blue eyeshadow and you feel confident wearing it, then don't worry about the opinion of one person. I like blue eyeshadow myself, and never considered it to be "hooker-ish".

Okay, I'm going to sound really weird for saying this, but hookers don't really wear crazy makeup. I used to drive down this one street that was known for its prostitutes, and they all had natural looking makeup on, if they had any on at all. I am not a hooker though so maybe some do wear it? In other states/areas??

If you like colors, wear them. That person is probably just mad they can't rock colored eyeshadow.

FTR, I used to wear MAC's electric eel on the daily.

(not my photo)

I think when they say hookerish, they are also referring more towards strippers and porn stars. I know they wear very bold, often bright looks.

Now this may also sound weird, but I like makeup kind of hookerish LOL!! I wear natural makeup, but what is wrong with looking a little hookerish once in awhile lol? To each their own.

Colored eyeshadow is so not hookerish!! If you wear it responsibly, it's not hooker-ish! I disagree with the youtube lady. It seems like you're good about it, it's just her opinion! And I agree with Internetchick- what's wrong with being hookerish once in a while? ;D

It sounds like the YouTube girl didn't have the self confidence to pull off a bold eye look. She's a hater. Wear what gives you confidence. Don't let her insecurity bring you down.

The more "hookerish" the better in my opinion! Greens, blues, pinks, greens, super smoked with black gray and silver!!!! I love them all. Of course there are times and places for everything and every look but bright bold and beautiful are all part of my makeup verbage. It's all in how well you blend and mix your colors.

Well you can certainly go overboard with it (overboard being a subjective idea here. To me, that means color up to the eyebrow but it's different for everyone) but I don't think there's a DAMN thing wrong with colorful eyeshadow! Not now, not ever. When I do makeup, I usually go really dramatic with it. I look natural enough without makeup, I don't need to use it to play that up :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

You guys are all awesome! Lol @internetchick it is so true! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> And Alyssa speaking of colored eyeshadow, nice avatar!

Thanks for getting my confidence back up to where it belongs

Love the responses on this question!  My humble opinion is this - from your profile pic, you look like you could rock blue eyeshadow.  It looks like it would go with your skintone and could definitely be a daily look, without being considered "hookerish".  I'm gonna really have to google that one, gotta see the "alter ego"!  LOL at the responses of knowing how actual hookers look, so funny, and defending the right for all women to embrace their "hookerishness".  I agree that many women can wear bold makeup and look amazing in it.  Myself, being a brown haired brown eyed girl, I tended to overdo the blue eyeshadow in my early teens when I was just learning and so put myself off of it because I looked so crazy with the over the top for me blue shadow.  But I've seen some gurus wear blues with my same coloring and it gave me the idea to try it again, I just did an aqua/bluish type eye with a greenish blue Make Up For Ever liner and a Smashbox shadow.  Loved it.  Also love the fact that I got a great lot of liners from someone on here for an outstanding price, because I would have never paid $29 for a blue liner and I really like it, who knew?  I think it takes confidence to pull off brights.  But on some people, blue shadow doesn't even look like an especially bright shadow, I have a cousin with gorgeous blue eyes and when she uses blue liners/shadows all the time and it just compliments her eyes, it doesn't fight for attention or look especially bright.  It's almost the same as me using browns and greens for my light brown eyes.  Just naturally enhances it.  Go for it and don't think twice!

What Lola said. If anything... if applied wrong... the blue won't look hooker-ish but more clownish. Frankly I love blue eyeshadow and think it's gorgeous especially when mixed with other shades of blue or silver. Don't let one person's opinion sway you from using a color you like or love.

There's no different cosmetic brands that hookers are supposed to use so its just all in the application and the attitude.  Every girl wants to look 'trashy' every now and then ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

PS- I LOVE LOVE this look on you!!! So pretty!

I love blues!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Blue Eyeshadow!

LOL Oh yes, you look exactly like a hooker. ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> LOL

Seriously though, that color is gorgeous on you. What did you use?

You know, even if you did "look like a hooker" why is that even a bad thing? I'm not a fan of othering and bagging on a group of people just because they're sex workers. I think that the person who made that statement is out of line.

Personally I agree with the others. If you like wearing it, and are happy with how you look, that's all that ultimately matters. I think it's cute when people wear colored eyeshadow! It would be pretty boring if everyone wore browns and neutrals.

Colored (especially light blue!) eyeshadow was very popular back in the day when women looked rather modest, so I doubt anyone looks "hookerish" when applied correctly. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> You shouldn't worry about what someone said on youtube, make up is about fun and there's really no wrong or right for one-self, just person preferences!
