Nothing like going out with a bang.

Destiny's Child, the multiplatinum trio who recently announced their break-up plans, were the big winners at this year's World Music Awards, taking home trophies for Best-Selling Pop Group, Best-Selling R&B Group and Best-Selling Female Group of All Time.

The night's other big victor was Mariah Carey. On the heels of her The Emancipation of Mimi success, the singer scored as Best-Selling R&B Artist, Best-Selling Pop Female Artist and Female Entertainer of the Year.

"This is an incredible night," Carey said after accepting the Entertainer of the Year prize during the Wednesday night ceremony at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. "I never expected to be standing here."(Everyone, incidentally, was standing for quite a while--the show lasted a whopping five hours.)

The Best-Selling New Male and Female Artist nods went out to the Game and Gwen Stefani, respectively, while Usher, a three-time winner in 2004, scored Male Entertainer of the Year.

Continuing the American domination of the evening was 50 Cent, who scored as Best-Selling Pop Male Artist, and Eminem, who was honored preshow with trophies for Best-Selling Pop-Rock Artist and Best-Selling Hip-Hop Artist. The Killers won for Best-Selling New Group.

Breaking the all-U.S.A. mold, U2 took the award for Best-Selling Rock Artist and the Rolling Stones were named Best-Selling Touring Band. Among the worldly rockers who made appearances were Philip Kirkorov from Russia and Lebanon's Elissa. Prior to the show, awards were passed out to best-selling artists from 13 countries, including Coldplay for its chart-topping success in native England.

Lifetime achievement trophies went to Bon Jovi (Diamond Award) and Carlos Santana (Legend Award).

A relatively minor-league pitstop on the awards-show circuit in the past, the World Music Awards relocated to Los Angeles and secured a broadcast deal with ABC this year in an effort to increase its profile. Cohosted by Carmen Electra and Desperate Housewives' James Denton, the 2005 World Music Awards will be telecast in a two-hour version on Sept. 13.
