Well, this week here in the Burbs, on the east side of the Bay from San Fran, is the yearly Gourmet East Bay. This is the greatest week ever ever ever if you like good restaurants. So all week, 40 different restaurants have been doing price fixed 3 course menus for $15/lunch, and $25/dinner.
So far I ate at this restaurant called Amber in this town called Danville that I have been DYING to try out, and had for dinner- Warm Oriental BBQ Pork Salad with Granny Smith Apples, Candied Walnuts, Honey-Dijon Mustard Vinaigrette, followed by Roasted Half Chicken stuffed with Chevre and Thyme, served with Peruvian Potatoes, Bacon Lardons, Huckleberry Demi-Glace, and finished off with a Brown Butter Toffee Pecan Blondie (brownie) with Coffee-Caramel Sauce and Valrhona Chocolate Gelato
Today for lunch I went to Wente Vineyards in the Livermore Wine Country (this was the SUPER BONUS because my friend won a raffle during the Wine Harvest Festival and won an entertainment membership where she can basically go there and drink her brains out for year with up to 7 of her friends). I had a traditional Caesar Salad, followed by the Applewood Smoked Double-Cut Pork Chop with Creamy Polenta, Braised Escarole, Jonathan Apple Chutney Brandy-Apple Jus, and finished off with a Chocolate Decadence cake made of Guittard 54 % French Vanilla Chocolate, Coffee Anglaise, Cocoa Chantilly
And tonight I went to the Paragon at the Claremont in Berkeley and had the Local Field Greens with Watermelon Radish, Balsamic Vinaigrette, followed by the Grilled Flat Iron Steak With Haricot Vert, Oven Dried Tomatoes, Roasted Baby Sunburst Squash & Salsa Verde and ending with the Orange-Vanilla Caramel Cheesecake With Gingersnap Crust & Orange Segments.
For all you bay area kids who have never been here- go and order a drink at sunset… and watch the sun set over San Francisco from Berkeley Hills
Tomorrow is the last day, so I am trying to figure out how to end this week of gluttony.
In the real world, I would NEVER be able to afford all these places in the same week, as these meals would have run $100+ a plate. ... But this week, I got to live like a rich fat foodie.
