Does anyone here work or has worked in a fast food place like Burger King, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, etc.?

Do you put that job in your resume or just leave it out? I usually do administrative work but I have been out of job for 4 months now since I quit my old job. Finding an administrative job that I like has been really hard! I am just thinking work at some Burger King or McDonald's near my house until I find a job that I really like.

But my question is would you put that experience in your resume cuz some people can look down on you if you worked at McDonald's? And would it make your resume look bad?

Thanks.

I haven't worked at one but I wouldn't leave it off a resume. It shows you can be responsible and work hard, and also that you haven't just been sitting around unemployed!

I would only use that if you used someone who works there as a reference or if the skills you learned from there applies to the job that you're applying for. Otherwise, no.

i would put it on your resume even if it's not the most glamourous job ever. if you don't, the employer will see a time gap in your work history and wonder what you've been doing for the past however long you didn't have a job and worked at a fast food restaurant. i think i'd rather tell them i was working at mcdonalds than sitting around with no job

but i guess if you aren't putting your work history on your resume and are focusing on your skills instead, then there really would be no point to include it.

i agree with simplyelegant. Unless you learned some skills that is applicable to the administrative work that you are seeking, i would put that down. But having said that, there are other jobs other than mcdonalds that you could work at, isn't there? I mean, you could work somewhere like office max, or compusa, or working in a techy kind of environment? I think that would look way better than any mcdonalds or burger king.

I worked at Big Apple Bagels for nearly a year.

I've decided to cut that out of my resume now - I hated my boss/manager/owner... she was an uber, cheap b*tch. And when I first started looking for jobs there after, I'm sure leaving her as a reference wasn't good. No matter how sweet and good enough I did my job, she would talk behind my back for no reason. I did learn a lot but not unless you have a good experience - I'd skip it.

I'm currently working now for the After School Program (going on my 3rd year) - and find that to be more desirables looking on my resume than a wack ass fast food joint. Find a job in an office or something... banks usually offer jobs.

I've been told to only put on your resume that which is pertinent to the field/position you're applying for. So, if you're trying to get a desk job, I wouldn't bother. Especially not if you weren't there for long. I mean, if you worked there for 5 years, then yeah, add it as it shows longevity.

I worked in a cateria in college and ended up student manager.... and worked in a gas station and doing yard work... I'd put all your jobs down... lets perspective employeers know that you know how to work..... and are willing to work.... IMHO

as a former HR person- only if you hold a position of power, ie an assistant manager or a manager.

Have you gone to a staffing agency if you are having problems finding an admin job on your own?

also, think about taking a small class like at a junior college (on the cheap), and as a gap in your resume, you can use that to your advantage, by stating in between jobs, you spent the time enriching yourself by taking relevant courses for career growth.

Seriously. It's the truth, and you can mention it from the very start in your cover letter, which you should ALWAYS be sending out. and you can list it under education as well, with a current time line.

it's beneficial for you in both ways!

I did go to school while I was unemployed. But the semester ended in December. So now I am doing nothing and going on interviews. The truth is I blame myself for quitting my old job cuz I miss it a lot now. I received 2 job offers during these 4 months of unemployment but truth is I didn't like those jobs.

Now I am being realistic and need $ so I am thinking getting whatever job I can get ASAP. But truth is I miss my old job a lot and I am miserable. I blame myself now I have to deal with a job I hate.

I would put it on my resume (in fact, I do - i worked at mcdonald's for one year) Macca's specifically is known for providing world-class training, and so it's nothing to be ashamed of. I wasn't in a position of management, but I include it because A. I was quite young and also, B. I recieved a lot of awards there, as well as participating in plenty of team activities, such as the OH&S safety team. By adding it to my resume, it shows my willingness to participate in group activites, as well as being a competent independent worker.

But hey, that's just my opinion. Brewgrl is right about trying an agency - I think it's an excellent idea.

I'm in the same position as you, trying to find a good admin/reception job! so best of luck! I hear ya sister!

good luck. i agree with Rosie, nothing wrong in putting it, it shows you can work hard. you should also try to find an agency, even temps, so you can extend your skills and earn some money while searching for a more permanent job.

I would put it on there. Why not? I mean, it IS a job...I don't look down on ANY job, because it is honest work. And to be frank, I personally would not want to work for anyone that would look down on honest work.

It's funny cuz most of the jobs that are considered low are the ones where you work really hard and not sit your a** in a chair all day lol.

But realistically a lot of people do look down on you and have a certain judgment of it however ignorant it may be.

Anyways I was thinking about calling my manager at my old job and hoping to get my old job back. I miss it and I regret quitting. Do you guys think I should do that? Truth is it's going to take a lot of guts for me to do that and who knows if they will rehire me?

If you really want it back, then there's no harm in trying to get it back. If they really valued you and you left on good terms then there's a very good chance that you can get it back. The worst they can say is no and then you'll continue looking for another job like you're doing now anyway.

I worked at a McDonald's a looooooonnnngggg time ago. I don't put that on my resume. The reasons being that it was for a very short period of time (1-2 months), also that isn't pertinent to the work I do now. HTH

well I wouldn't bother if it was only a short time, but in my case, it was quite a while, so it would look weird if I didn't include it. Plus I agree, no one should look down on honest work.

But I agree if it's not really pertinent to what you do or want to do currently and your time at the fast food restaurant was only short, I might just leave it out.

I worked for an A&W for 3 yrs or so... I actually loved the job anyways I was the manager of the store so it was on my Resume...but I also worked for the source and save on foods and I didnt put those two on my resumes cause I was only there for a few months or so and I really couldnt give them as a refrence cuz heh I just didnt show up for the jobs one day...anyways put it on ur resume if u had it for more than 3 months, if u keep changing jobs it would be harder for u to get hired cuz it shows ur not stable...so dont put the jobs u had for less than 3 months. When I use to interview ppl for the past 4 yrs thats one of the most important things to look at, besides refrence checks.

Well my last job, I was there for four months. I should have never quit it. It was as a salon receptionist at this great salon on 5th Avenue in the city. I miss my old job. I don't think I will call back though to get it back.

You know it was my fault for quitting and I did not give notice when I left so I doubt they will rehire me. My decisions so I gotta live with them and start all over. I am going to apply at a Burger King and McDonald's near my neighborhood tomorrow cuz I am bored out of my mind and I am almost broke. I need the $ so I will work there until I find something better.

Wish me luck guys!
