- look for recipes that contain less than 7 ingredients!!!! that is the key to becoming comfortable in the kitchen. a lot of ingredients means a lot of prep time and utensils and cleaning... reasons why many people never cook.
- look for recipes that have already prepared items in them to make it easier, i.e. cream soups or deli meats or canned chicken or salsa. this takes out a lot of the hassle, using prepared foods that are budget conscious.
- only deal with recipes that use single cooking applications- stay away from things that you have to sear then bake, or boil, then sautee... stick to "mix it all together and put in a pot at 350 for 30 minutes" or "throw it all in a pan and sautee it till brown" or "throw it all in a slow cooker in the morning and simmer til you get home from work".
EDIT:I also want to add the
world's easiest chicken recipe that everyone seems to think is great (plus it's good for ya! no extra added fats!)
THREE INGREDIENTS!!!
4 Chicken parts (boobs, thighs, quarters, whatever is on sale)
a packet of generic dry ranch dressing
3/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
preheat oven to 400f
put ranch and crumbs in a big ziploc. put in chicken piece. shake. place on cookie sheet. do rest. sprinkle the left over crumbs in the bag on top of chicken pieces.
place on middle rack in oven
bake for 30 minutes if boobs or thighs. 45 minutes if larger sections or legs.
serve.
Ooh, that sounds pretty cool. Like a healthier version of Shake-n-Bake. I'll have to try it.
