How do you know ?

I was wondering how you know if your shampoo & conditioner is leaving build up on your hair? I have read a lot about it on here, but i'm still not sure how you figure out if you have build up or not. Could someone help me figure this out please?

Honestly, the way I started to realize it with my old shampoo was that my hair was getting greasy faster than normal.

I felt like my hair had some kind of residue my hair is really thin so it felt it was getting thick.
