So I was at the Kiehls counter today and I was looking at some of their products with the assistance of an MA. I was looking at their Abyssine Lotion which I bought off ebay and I mentioned that I had recently purchased that product online. After she heard that she said "I honestly suggest that you do not buy skincare on ebay or places like that online. You don't know how old they are or what condition they are in." I thought this was pretty good point haha I didn't think of that when I bought it! But now I can't help but ask. Have you guys ever bought skincare on ebay? Was it nasty when it arrived? I was also wondering if there was any way to check the expiration date as well...

I've never bought skincare from ebay. I prefer to buy it in a store. I have however purchased some makeup online, but that was from a reputable seller.

i have never ordered on ebay, but here the brands have to indicate the expiration date. it's usually indicated on the packaging, a small pot with a number on it(how many months you can keep the thing once it's opened), and on the tube of moisturizer itself, i think there is also a date indicated.

Thanks for the info, I'll check that out.

I've never ordered skincare online but I'm not opposed to doing so. The chance of you receiving an out-of-date or poor quality product online isn't much greater than buying a faulty product at a store. Some stores will keep items long past their selling date.

I've bought Mama lotion twice via eBay from Cosmeticsville, and both times it's been fine. I'd buy skincare from a seller who deals in high volume, but probably not from someone who's cleaning out her stash. Dept. store SA's have a vested interest keeping your business.

I can certainly appreciate her point.

Not all products supply you with an expiration date.

I haven't purchased skincare online, nor do I intend to in the future.

i would never purchase skincare or makeup from ebay (personal users). just my own personal rule.

That is a "fair" warning, but she may have been telling you that so you would take your business to their store to spend more money!

I've never purchased skincare off ebay either, but I've purchased quite a bit of makeup from reputable sellers and never had a problem.

I say buy from a well known seller that is known for selling what you need. If you happen to find one then it should be ok to buy sensitive items such as skincare and makeup.

Good point, I just received the product and it smells yummy

She had a bunch of the same product, so I'm kinda nervous that they were locked away in some old warehouse somewhere for a long time and then purchased them for a discount price. But like I said, it smelled ok, so I'll use half the product at least.

I'd never buy skincare or makeup from off eBay. I rarely buy offline anyway. But when I do, I usually buy directly from the company or a department store's website.

I have bought skin care from ebay. You have to ask alot of questions. I once got a great deal on Facialist sizes of Clarins. nice big bottle of Cleansing milk with Gentian and some toner. I have also bought things that are not available here, like Dior Snow washing grains. I love that, especially great for airline travel, as it is not a liquid.

I'm glad it worked out for you. Enjoy your new products.

I think that purchasing stuff via ebay is fine I think the ladys behind the counter like to scare us into only buying products from them
