<TABLE cellSpacing=0 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top height=235>From an article I read about Fall 2004 fashion show-

Many designers opted for a more formal tone and presented looks from a time when sexy didn’t necessarily mean baring it all. There were references to a number of decades, but the concentration seemed to hit on looks from the ’40s and ’50s. Think Mona Lisa Smile with a sexy, modern twist.

The look: Feminine Demure

o NY master designers such as Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta as well as up-and-comers such as Patrick Robinson (for Perry Ellis) and Peter Som included higher collars and necklines and lower hemlines in their collections.

o Women will be glad to know that curves are back in full force.

Highlighting the hourglass silhouette so popular in the past, the new key body part seems to be the waist: accented with high-waisted skirts and pants and skinny belts or bows, worn over dresses, sweaters and coats.

o Wardrobe pieces included finely tailored ¾ length suits and coats, shirtwaist dresses, knit twin sets, and full skirts infused with a modern day edge.

o Tweed seemed to be the most popular fabric choice, along with buttery satin, rich velvet and light chiffon in dusty pastels and rich fall tones such as plum, rust and forest green.

The accessories: Glamour Days

o Items once associated with dressy affairs were included into daywear collections as well. There were wrist and elbow length gloves in soft leather, fur and satin capelets, and sparkly brooches.

o Cold weather always brings out the animals, and designers used real and fake fur, on everything from Peter Pan collars to trench style coats to trim on dresses and skirts.

o And quite a change from the cool silver tones of the past few seasons, the new metallic to watch for is gold. Warm, rich, yellow gold showed up in sparkly jewelry and flashy fabrics.
