First the update=

it is worse than I thought. She has fully taken my identity.

Gained employment using my name on and id with hER photo. My birthdate as well.

This is heartwrenching. I now have to prove I am the real Melissa.

She has thus far evaded paying taxes whilst using my name.

So it is of the utmost importance they catch whomever it is and then verify who is the real one.

I am all out of energy, been crying and talking to police and employers she has used all day.

Now the plea=

SHRED all of your old mail, and be mindful of who has access to your mail area while you are out.

There is no telling who this is, or how she got so much of my info.

Just be careful

I don't want anyone else feeling as sick as I do right now.

Wow! Sorry. I know it takes a lot of time to straighten this out. Make sure, by checking your credit report, that she hasn't taken out any credit cards or loans in your name.

That's awful! Good luck with everything! Out of curiosity...wouldn't your fingerprints prove that you were the real Melissa & match up with the ones taken when you were born?

1. they aren't to that point in the investigation, though I am sure they will get there.

2. I was adopted, closed adoption. My mom only has what the orphanage and lawyer provided. Basic info and birth certificate corrected to reflect a birth to adopted parents.

Fingerprints MIGHT help, but I can't recall if my mom ever had me printed as a child.

The one on my Drivers License may be of little help, we shall see.

I am verklempt, just not even able to calm myself right now.

I have tried to live a good life, never been in trouble etc. with teh law, IRS etc,

As far as credit goes, mine stinks, she wouldn't be able to get a taco bell card with my credit=P

Wich is sort of ironic I typed that without thinking, Taco Bell was her last employer under my name that we KNOW of so far.

The trail isn't cold, she just switched jobs prior to Christmas( spoke with her old manager) and I know she went to work at a factory in that same city.

I am waiting on calls tomorrow as that manager is doing some digging to see if she mentioned the company name before she left.

The employers are stunned. They knew her as Melissa C.(not putting my full last name) so to find out she wasn't who she said she was has left THEM feeling victimized too.

Wish me luck and strength.

I am just feeling like NO ONE deserves this happening to them, no one.

There was an article about someone this happened to in Marie Claire. They had a picture of the culprit at the ATM, the police said they wouldnt spend much time on the case b/c they were more focused on violent crime. Well, she saw the lady in a Starbucks I think and called 911, and ran several blocks to catch her (the culprit was running away). They caught her but it took a lot to get everything straightened out. There had been a lot of mail theft at her complex so she got a post office box. It's not funny it happened, but to think she chased her down is hilarious. I shred mail and have had a P.O. Box for years. It takes some people years to get that stuff straightened out. Someone who stole my identity would be sorry they picked me, but oh man the hassle to straighten that out. Thanks for sharing your story.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I just signed up a few months ago with Lifelock. It's 9.99 a month and no one even runs a credit check on me anymore without me being notified. No more pre approved credit card deals and they have like a 1,000,000 dollar guarantee. Even my junk mail has cut down. Reading sad stories like yours makes me glad I did it. I do hope everything turns out ok. I know how difficult it is going to be to straighten everything out.

Wow I am SOOOO sorry. That makes me so angry. People who do that deserve the death penalty. I don't care if that's cruel but doing that to a person just so much pain and trouble to go through!

that is horrible and i hope they catch her soon, grr, i hope she'll learn what you get by stealing people's identity. just to cheer you up, a story that happened like 10 years ago. it was the first time we were moving to the parisian suburd, and of course we were waiting for our new phone number. as soon as we got it, we phoned friends and family. lol, except there was an identity mistake because in the same city someone with the same family name and first name as my dad was living here for years, and they had given us his phone number. we had to show some identity proves, and thanks to my dad's second first name, the phone company was able to realise its mistake and give us another.

the funny part is between the time we moved and the time we got the right phone number, it was my dad's birthday and we were surprised not receiving even one "happy birthday" phone call.

that poor guy got them all !!!
