I'm at a loss in terms of brand as i live in Europe, but checking the labels is really the first and most absolute thing to do. I'm fine with wheat and oat, but the other two culprits are forbidden in my home (even the alcoholic beverages that i don't like anyway). I have to check for other culprits as well. People tend to think you can be intolerant to gluten or lactose, and nothing else, but in reality any food can become an ennemy for your body, or you can lack enzymes to digest any particular food. Needless to say grocery shopping with me can be tedious and long !

As a result, i will buy primary ingredients and cook rather than buy premade meals, less chances to get contaminated. For example, buy sugar, flour, and so on, rather than buy a pack of cookies. Definitely add more water to your recipes, the gluten free flours make the dough a little more dry.

check the other cereals : rice, quinoa, corn, amaranth, buckwheat (which isn't wheat at all !), chestnut flakes or flour (expensive but yummy).

I really love Dr Schar breads, and flour mix, but those are expensive so i only buy them every once in a while, as a little pleasure. However, something i've noticed with that kind of bread is the amount of fat is very generous, so definitely check that out too.

I make my own muesli for breakfast with soy flakes, almonds, hazelnuts and grated coconut, sometimes adding in the mix cranberries and raisins. For sauces, i use cornstarch, so no problem here.

That muesli from Lima is a killer, i love it ! (I mention it for the UK Muters, apparently that brand isn't sold in the U.S.).

In terms of stores, i go to the supermarket for the basic stuff, bubbly water, yogurts, milk, sugar, and so on. I usually buy my fruits and veggies at the market, and for the more specialised vegetarian/GF stuff, i go to the healthfood store, i rotate between two that belong to the same chain but carry a different selection. It's only there i can find GF soy sauce.

Go to the "exotic" stores as well, rice noodles can be found in any chinese grocery store for example, and they're really cheap.
