Hi All!

I just received my samples of Lumiere in the Flawless Finish, and I have to say I was very impressed with the coverage, feel and wear of this makeup. All of you who recommened and raved about this brand are 100% correct. It's definitely great and I want to buy some in the full sizes, however, every single shade that I picked looks greyish, pale (putty, cement color) on me if that makes any sense? I chose 6 sample shades all in the "cool" tones (which is what I am). I didn't even look into the "beige" tones on their website when I made my selection, but now notice that they have shades in "fairly light beige" (description - formerly fairly light cool); "light beige" (description - formerly light cool); and - here comes the best one: "Medium Cool Beige 2.3" (description:

Created by popular request!! We have now made a Medium Cool Beige 2.3! This will be very close in color to the "original" but with a balanced cool and warm undertone in our Veena Velvet formula, so it will be bismuth and shine free!)"- I'm not trying to be funny, but what the heck is the 2.3 referring to? Out of all of these choices, I think I would be a Light Cool Beige 2.3 - judging by the colors on my monitor, however, that color doesn't exist on the site.

I'm laughing myself because it is actually hilarious that the color I think I should be isn't a choice among the 20 or so that they offer - figures.

So, I'm thinking I should probably go with FAIRLY LIGHT BEIGE (formerly light cool) since I'm cool toned and am finding their "updated" cool colors are "greyish" on me. They seem to be more of a neutral removing any of the natural pink/beige tones I have in my skin. So, any help or suggestions are welcome -

Thanks,

CooCoo

I got the same thing when I tried Lumiere. No matter which shade I tried (I'm a light or medium light neutral) it all looked gray on me. I thought maybe because I tried too light a color, but even when I got a darker shade it was gray and chalky looking - putty describes it pretty well. I wanted to like it, but just didn't.

have you tried cashmere formula?? It's totally different at least on my face. With other formulations, I agree that they give greyish effect.

In fact the mineral makeup often gives a greyish effect and I found a good solution for it. I mixed one sample bag of meow bronzer with my foundation, and it's wonderful. One bag for one 3 oz. jar, with lumiere while their foundations are smaller I would add much less.

I suggest either emailing Kim (the owner) or check out the Lumiere addicts forum. The ladies are very helpful and nice.

Sorry I can't paste a direct link. Anyhow, if you go to Mineral Makeup Mania. com (delphi forums) there is a link at the top for other forums and you can go to Lumiere Addicts.

I wear Lumiere foundation. Most of my stock (and I have quite a bit!) was purchased when she was selling out old packaging with Must Have Minerals. I wear the Fairly Light shades in Veena Velvet. Skin type oily sensitive.

Link works for Lumiere Addicts. I can't edit my original post.

I thought it was just poor selection of color choices that I made. I see that's not the case and seems to be in most of their color choices (especially for the "cool" shades). I did try to log onto their Delphi message board, but cannot get on it even though I tried several times to create an account. Maybe their system is down or something. I will try again later.

I did do a little bit of research on the Coastalscents website and see that Titanium Dioxide is part of their foundation base kit and it is suggested to add more of it if you want a more dewey/creamy finish. Titanium Dioxide is also the first (and I suppose Main) ingredient in the FF Lumiere foundation. I already have some EDM, Oceanmist, and Cocunutbay cosmetics which are terrific color matches, so I've purchased some of the Titatanium Dioxide to add a drop to some of it to see if it will add that creamy texture that I like in the Lumiere. Hopefully, the Titanium Dioxide isn't what's causing the greyish cast as well! I won't be adding it to all of my existing makeup, even if it does create that creamy finish, because although I like it, it does cause my skin to become oilier. I know that it's formulated for normal/dry skin and it seems that when it's warmer out, it tends to break down on my skin leaving me a little bit oily. This is a makeup I would use during the winter months as I have combo skin. Unfortunately it also becomes dry in patches in the winter as well as very oily in the T-Zone in the summer. I have what's called the best of both worlds!

And, by the way, while at the Coastalscents site, I picked up the sythetic kabuki brush at a discount – use coupon code GREAT to receive $3.00 off of the $9.00 price. I'll be sure to post this on the coupon site as well, if someone hasn't already done so.

Thanks so much, all of you for your help. I'll keep you posted with my new quest!

I have the same problem with Lumiere!

Some ladies here worship that brand, so I ordered samples and I was really looking forward to try them on. I am a caucasian women medium brown hair, blue eyes, and fair-light skin with warm-neutral undertone.Usually I find colormatch in the first pick. With companies that have large selection of foundation, I have have 2-3 good match in the first try. I have good matches in EDM, Ocenmist, Meow, Pure boutqkue, MAd minerals and so on.

But not with Lumiere!

In the sample 4 foundation I had nothing even close! I tried flawless face and luminesse, but generally they are much -much lighter then they look like on the website. The result this chalky greyish look.

I also tried they lipstick, which was nice color, but came off in 2 minutes.

So I think I finished Lumiere. I spend $10 on it, and not a single product I can use.

From EDM I get almost a full foundation for that price...

You've hit the nail on the head. So have the other posters. It really intrigued me too, in the Lumiere Rave a few threads down, someone stated that it was so inexpensive. Then I noticed that they posted that statement about a year ago - when it was in fact less expensive! Right now I think it's one of the most expensive for the amount of product you receive. Also, I looked up what "squalene" is. It's olive oil. No wonder it was so silky! Just what I need to put on my face every day. That's why even if I found an exact color match I couldn't use it all the time anyway. I do really like the "feel" of the makeup, but am not crazy at all about the "pasty" complexion it gives me. I'm rosy light skinned, dark hair and eyes. This removes all of the "brightness" from my face and reminds me of Plaster of Paris on me. I have a feeling that people who are beige/peachy/olive complexioned do much better with this foundation. I think that those tones probably don't have any grey in them and work really nicely for them. As for me, I don't think that I will be using it. I would have liked to try the VV formula, but that has the oat powder in it and I don't want to put any food products on my face, especially since I do have allergies, and many people who have oily skin have problems with it interating with the oil and bacteria. It's not worth taking a chance. I have so many other brands that work really great and I have had a good experience switching between Aubrey Nicole, Oceanmist, EDM, Signature, and Coconutbay. I'm fortunate that I've found so many that really work for me. Again, another instance of what works for one person, doesn't work for another. And, as a side note, so many people complain that the EDM looks powdery and chalky, but I haven't had that experience with it. In fact, my husband, only when asked how the Lumiere looked on me, he (for lack of really being able to put it to words) said, "you look powdery, and light." I asked him if he thought it looked "grey" and he said, "yes, that's it - but also very powdery." He said he liked the other "stuff" I used. Poor guy can't keep up with all of the variety of mmu I have! Who can blame him, I can hardly keep up myself!
As far as that "creamy" texture is concerned, I think that the Aubreynicole satisfies those days when I want that option. I'm still going to try adding some of the Titanium Dioxide to some of my existing mmu just to see how it changes the "feel" and wear on my skin. I'll keep you posted.

Well , I'm glad I'm not alone . I also noticed that I looked grey after using lumiere flawless finish , and VV . I ordered a bunch of different shades thinking that I would find one that did not give that grey effect , and ended up spending like 15.00 on a bunch of samples that I hate , and won't use !

No, you're not alone. In daylight it's even worse. I really do wonder what makes it so grey toned. Otherwise the feel and wear of the product is great. But, not really good for me anyway because of the oil. For my skin type, I really should be using the VV because anything I put on my skin which has any type of oil gives me a breakout. In fact just last night, I applied the tiniest bit of moisturizer on my eyes and just the teeniest amount of residue from that application, I applied around my "smile" lines. Wouldn't you know it, I broke out with a zit by morning!

Also, thanks for letting me know that you've experienced the same grey tone with the various formulas. Otherwise I might have thought that it was due to the squalene or one of the ingredients specific to the FF. For now, I'll just stick to the ones that work for me. For those who this makeup works, it's really a nice feeling product. That's why we have to see what works for each of us individually.

Thanks for all of your input and help.

I've had the grey-face problem also, and I have finally figured out what caused it - wearing a foundation that was not "warm toned" enough.

As a reference, I can wear both a MAC NC15 and NW15 ('not cool", "not warm"), so I am super pale and neutral toned.

I always buy "neutral" colors, and many companies' intepretation of neutral tends to be greyish. Recently, I got some Lumiere Fair Warm, and guess what?

Perfect match! My skin came alive, so to speak, and I no longer looked greyish. Love it!

So my suggestion is that if your foundation looks greyish, head over to the warmer side of the color range, and you will find a better match, regardless of whether you normally wear "cool" or "neutral" tones.

I do not think the lack of warm cause the grey impression. 3 of the samples I ordered from lumiere was from their warm range and still made me look greyish masky, yuck!

Maybe if I spend a whole bunch more I maybe just maybe! I 'll find 1 good much. It definetely does not worth to me waste more money on it.

I use a mix of lumiere medium beige and light medium beige in Cashmere formula and don't have that grey affect. I would definetly email Kim with questions or post on Lumiere addicts, they can help pick out colors, they've tried just about everything. I can't recommend colors since I've only used "beige" colors. Sorry but Lumiere is definetly a wonderful company so don't give up.
