I am planning to get the basic brush set tomorrow. I was wandering if anybody knows how the brushes in the sets compare to the full size brushes.

On makeupalley the brushes got bad reviews..and I just wanted to see what are your opinions..

Thanks.

A MUA at MAC told me that they weren't the same quality as the regular MAC brushes, but they weren't horrible either.

Some people say its not the same because its machine made. I dont see the difference and i have a set. so idk.

I have brushes from a brush set, and they work great!

The full-sized brushes are handmade and the brush sets are machine made. They may not be as great, but they still work really well!

I hope you enjoy your brush set when you get it!

the quality is still good, theyre made from natural hairs still but they are mass produced rather than handmade. the good thing is the handles are smaller so theyre great for travel. for they price i think they are worth it. they are also great for someone building their "starter kit". plus this year, the #187 brush is in the face set, i think that in its self makes it worth the price!

I've been using my mac SE brushes from last yr's holiday collection and they still work great for me. I actually prefer the SE ones since they're compact and easy to take on the go and the shorter handles give me more control of the brush. I'd say the regular MAC brushes are 'slightly better' only because the texture of the hair bristles are smoother/finer. Other than that, I really see no BIG difference.

I mean, for the price of the SE sets...you really can't complain. lol

They are made with natural AND synthetic hairs and machine made rather than hand made.

I got my first brush set with the Novel Twist collection and the 187 brush works just as well as my full sized 187, the eye brushes weren't as good though.

I got my first brush set from them about 5 years ago. I use the brushes almost daily and they still look and feel brand new. I think theyre decent quality and well worth the money.

If you do not have the money to get the individual brushes start with the starter set. Like everyone saids they are not horrible. Then later you can build your collection of full size brushes.

Also, I purchased brushes from this site and they work wondeful. Take a look, they have sets you can purchase. They have everything u could possibly want.

I got them :)

First a little background. I have the regular sized 239, 219 and 217. I love them a lot and they are the only ones I use for my eyes except a liner brush from quo.

I wanted to get a set because I wanted another 239 and 219 so that one pair can be used for dark and one for light colours. And I needed a short handle blush brush.

So..I went in today and the MAC SA was really nice and told me that the set brushes are not individually hand made but rather made in an assembly line fashion(he still insisted they are hand made). He said the hairs are the same.

He opened the set for me and let me try each and single one of them.

They do look a little uneven with a few longish hairs in between, but I just trimmed them. They are full and feel soft to me when i touch them. I tried the lip brush as a liner and it is perfect..I especially like the short handle as the one I use from quo is has a long handle and can be hard to use on my left eye.

I will wash them before trying them on my face and will do my makeup with them tomorrow...will let you know what I think.

oh..and I got the basic set..cannot say anything about the other two.

Thanks for everybody's help. At first I was really excited about the set and my expectations were very high..having your comments prevented major disappointment :) (as they are still different from the full sized ones). I have the option to return them within 30 days..so i'm not worried.
