I was thinking about MAC's and Sephoras winter promo material and thought to myself, which is a better promo

MAC's promo is antique. Sephora sent me a nice glossy catalog with great photos of colorful wintery makeup.

The Sephora catalog was colorful and really made me really want their products. It was young trendy and very wintery. I didn't get anything from MAC but the website and store shows a young lady dressed old fashioned with gray silvery and gold colors.

Sorry MAC your promo is lousy. Not only was grey and silver boring but it says old. Especially with the words antique, and what customer wants is attracted to makeup that highlights age?

What do you think? Which to do you like better. I guess I feel Sephora had a much much stronger image.

i love, love, love sephora's collection. not cuz i work for them, but i was just amazed. wait til you see the stores. it looks like a wonderland!!! the one i work at looks soooooo beautiful!

Both are different. They both are great in their own ways.

I spent $150 on MAC and nothing on Sephora so far. I actually really like the MAC ads for their Holiday collections this year.

I haven't seen sephora yet but I loved the MAC holiday promo's. I haven't thought about them being truly an antique more than they are saying "luxury" because antiquities are pricey.

If we were to consider looks that are associated with antique half of what we have been wearing around for the past 5 + years would be considered old or untrendy because it all recycles back around. Wedge shoes, chunky heels and oxford booties, flare leg jeans, skinny pants and leggings, even stilettos as Marilyn Monroe wore them. A lot of the feminine trends we see in clothing right now are from the 30's and 40's.

Now I am off to check out the Sephora winter line.

I bought all four of the Royal Assets eye palettes, and my brother stopped by and saw the boxes that they had come in. He was all like "What's this for?" I told him, and he was like "That must be some expensive makeup!" lol.

I liked MAC holiday better last year I think. I bought two of the eye palettes and two of the lip palettes this year, and I think they look very cheap. I do love the red viva glam palette though... very cute.

Sephora has excellent marketing/promos in my opinion. I notice in the holiday or summer catalogs etc., the cover look (even looks throughout the entire catalog) are always sold out. I think it was this past summer... The model on the cover was wearing a NARS cream e/s duo on her eyes with a sue devitt pencil (tanzania was the shade) It was so hard to get... sold out, because I'm guessing everyone wanted the shadow/pencil because the models eyes looked amazing. I can hardly ever say that about MAC's models in their promos.

Sephora also has gorgeous FREE holiday gift packaging. My mom, sister, and MIL are beyond ecstatic when they see that beautiful gift package from Sephora.

Finally, I have to say, I gasp whenever I see Sephora's holiday catalog. It's stunning. I've never been in the store for the holidays, but now that one just opened up by me... I'll definitely be there. I might even get to the NYC one before Christmas.

Oh, and how about the 20% friends and family discount Sephora offers every Nov. for almost 3 weeks. Just in time for when the holiday catalog comes out... pretty smart marketing imo. I think Sephora has a little edge in the marketing/promo dept.

EDIT: If were talking strictly promo i still think Sephora has the edge. I mean MAC has the advantage because it is one m/u company doing their collection. Sephora sells MANY brands, so they can't do an antique theme or anything other than a holiday/ makeup color theme.

I didn't mean to take it a little off topic by discussing the ff discount, and the free gift packaging... but I think that should be taken into consideration too.

I can't wait til my Sephora catalogue gets here! I'm dying to see the holiday print ads. Their catalogue always reads like a magazine.

I got my Sephora Holiday catalog yesterday and I was glued to the couch for an hour reading what everything was (with my reading glasses, of course). The whole thing is beautifully done and I'm definitely heading there soon. good bye no-buy.

I could also very easily spend money there.
As for the catalog, I want the purple and blue on page 5, I think it is. I won't wear it that dramatic, but purple is just such a good color for my blue eyes, and seeing the blue shimmer when I blink will be Oh sooo HOT! I'm also thinking of picking up a white pearl for the side of the eye lid, so you only see the blue when I blink. Too bad they are sold out online

I sometimes buy at mac because Sephora is so far away, but I'm not compromising on this.

As for promo, I showed a friend who did graphic work for marketing material for microsoft, amazon, adidas, you know big names like that. When I showed him the catalog he was amazed. Not only did he love the colors but he talked about the photographs, font type and layout. Basically he said they did a great job creating a strong catalog and image.

Oh Sephora, why can't you be closer? Sucks to be so far away, maybe good, who knows how much I'd spend there.

You can go to the Sephora.com web site and all of the cover looks are on the site. I think you click get the look either on the main page or on the makeup page. Go check it out!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way those shadows look! Especially the blue. It is a little bit out of my color range, but I'll be looking to get the blue shadow at my Sephora. The way you plan on wearing it sounds gorgeous.

Been to Sephora and the winter collection is pretty, but I'm a MAC addict so let's just say I love MAC's collection a whole lot better. The packaging is divine and the all the products so pretty. I have many photos and swatches on my blog of MAC's holiday collection, if some of you are curious.
