HI!

I have been posting for a little while so most of you have probably seen my name. I have been the tomboy of tomboys for most of my life and now I want to be the girl my mom wanted me to be. So my question:

What would be your idea of the minimum makeup you would wear when just walking out of the house?

I understand that there will be a large variety of answers and I thank you in advance.

Christie

For me, the necessities are lash primer, mascara, foundation, blush, brow pencil (only because my eyebrows look terrible otherwise), and lip balm w/sunscreen or lipstick. I wish I could get away with less, but without at least these things I look really tired or just plain scary. lol.

Hi...I used to be a big tomboy myself, and only really started wearing makeup when i was 25 (27 now). I still don't wear a lot. I suddenly became interested somehow. I don't wear much - just wanted to know how to apply it, and i do think a little goes a long way.

So, I think the minimum for others who wear a lot might be a lot for you. Brow powder is always listed as an essential, but frankly, I used to use it a lot and I like the way I look without it better. I do look more natural without it, and if your brows are already well defined, I think you can skip that.

Also...I still don't wear foundation. If you take good care of your skin, you don't really need it. A lot of people could have better skin if they didn't use conventional foundation. I have a foundation i like that I use as a concealor to hide dark circles or a zit. I like it better than regular concealor because you can build it and it isn't as thick. Foundation all over the face is a bit much if you are trying to go minimal. I would stick to concealing dark circles and zits and using a transluscent powder.

I would just wear mascara on eyes if it were me. I use an eyelash curler then apply mascara and it makes a nice difference. sometimes i dab on a shimmery neutral toned eyeshadow on my lid, which also hides imperfections. i just use my finger. i actually think it looks better than when i use a brush.

some days i just wear powder, conceal spots, and wear a red lipstick. I think it's a nice contrast. A lot of guys have told me they like that look actually...a more or less bare face and eyes but emphasizing your lips.

so for me -

- foundation or concealor to conceal imperfections only

-powder

-mascara

-a neutral shimmery eyeshadow

-and a lipstick you really like

not all at once, but you can play around. i wear very minimal makeup myself.

thanks for the tips. I do like the natural look and think my skin looks good without any foundation. Mascara is something that I think I can handle, but I have never tried an eyelash curler. Lipstick is something I have just started to play with.

I think the thing I like about using an eyelash curler is that it makes your lashes look like really nice and you don't need a second coat. I don't like the cakiness of a second coat. I'd rather people not notice I'm wearing mascara.I also like lip fusion's lip liners. They are fat and you can color in your whole lip. They have some nice natural colors, and they are supposed to plump, but they are just nice natural colors that I use for everyday. Some people have really nicely pigminted lips, but I don't. So I'll often use that (which depending on how you apply, looks like your own natural lip color). I agree with others on gloss. My friend always wears one of macs non-shimmery glosses and doesn't wear much makeup and it looks so good on her. and they have so many colors.
also...a blush isn't a bad idea. i have nars orgasm blush and i literally just touch a brush to it and apply it. i want it to not look dead basically on a bad day. i never look like i'm wearing blush. i really don't want to look like i'm wearing makeup. the days i get the most compliments i happen to be wearing no makeup or just foundation as concealor, powder, and a dab of blush and that lip liner i mentioned that just gives pigment. really, people always tell me i look good those days, and i always find it funny, because those are the days i really wear basically nothing.

When I was growing up, my dad used to have a rule that we were allowed to wear makeup as long as he couldn't see it. So, I definately perfected the natural look: a little concealer, some foundation, powder (to set your makeup and keep you shine-free), a little mascara (not too noticable but it does make a big difference), and some lip balm. Now, after five years in theatre, I feel odd living the house without black eyeliner and a coat of black mascara but my everyday routine is pretty much the same.

A little concealer under the eyes, A thin layer of foundation, some blush and light coat of mascara =)
