Having been the recent victim of nasty comments directed at me about how I look to being overweight seeing this news reporter close to crying hit home for me. Recently she received an email from a viewer essentially ridiculing her because she's overweight. I don't get why people need to put someone else's looks and even weight down, it's mean and it's hurtful. For some people who are suffering depression those types of comments can lead a person to contemplate or even commit suicide.

Yes, it is bullying to ridicule someone because they don't pronounce something correctly. It's bullying if you ridicule someone for being overweight or too thin. It's bullying when you attack someone because you think that just because you're using a screen name that you can post what ever you want because no one will know who you are. It doesn't matter if you don't like another person, you don't have to like everyone but you don't have to be a mean and malicious person and ridicule that person's looks or weight. Personally, it has hurt my feelings when my picture was posted on a different forum and my looks ridiculed. I did cry because it was and is hurtful. I'm not a thick skinned person and being ridiculed by someone I don't know has left me feeling defeated, humiliated, hurt and my own spirit broken.

So remember, just because you have a bit of anonymity doesn't mean you should feel free to humiliate another person just because you think you can. You don't have the right to hurt someone.

I applaud her for taking a stand. She isn't playing the victim, she is calling him out. She has the wisdom to understand that she has value as a human and not just a "face".

Humans tend to hunt for flaws in one another. The problem is that the more obvious ones (usually physical) like ears, nose, body, etc are seen more obviously that other potential "flaws". Someone perceived to be less than attractive for whatever reason will be picked on usually before someone with character flaws because they are outwardly obvious.

I understand that you don't have to agree with someone's lifestyle choices to be supportive of them. I think people forget that. Hopefully people see her and maybe it will open some eyes. We all need to be more kind, understanding and realize we all have flaws and shortcomings.
