Painful Reactions to Skincare?

I was trying out a skincare sample several days ago (Lancome Visionnaire), and I didn’t have any problems with it initially, but one night I forgot to put it on first and applied it after my eye cream.  Ouch!!  It created red, tender, puffy welts where it came into contact with the cream (on my cheekbones, under my eyes).  The welts are taking their sweet time to clear up, and I’m not sure what I should do to treat them. Hydrocortisone? Any thoughts?

Do you think maybe its' an allergic reaction? If it is then maybe Benadryl will help bring down the irritation.
