i have a couple of questions about makeup brushes and i wasn't able to find them anywhere. maybe i'm not looking in the right places, but i need some help
smile.gif

1. how often do they need to be cleaned?

2. does an actual brush cleanser work better than shampoo or are they pretty comparable? i was considering buying one from mac but if they work the same, i figured why spend the money?

3. what is your favorite brand for brushes? i've been using a combination of mary kay and bare escentuals brushes and i'm not sure how those compare to other brands. (i ask this because it seems like my brushes don't really seem to apply my eye makeup exactly where i want it. its like it kind of just falls off wherever instead of having control over the exact spot i want put it at)

I clean mines once a week. I know some people do theirs once a day but once a week works fine for me. Haven't tried any actual brush cleansers so I can't compare but I always just use a mild shampoo and every now and again I use a bit of conditioner too. Whether that's neccessary I have no idea but I like to do it anyway.

I use MAC brushes which I really like so I just stick to those. The only non MAC brush I use is an ordinary soft tapered bristle art store paint brush which I use as a blending brush because it's basically the same.

I clean them about twice a week and I use a mild shampoo too. I rinse them well and I let them dry flat.

I have bought MAC cleanser, but I haven't used it yet, so I don't know if it's good.

I also use MAC brushes and I have Body Shop brushes for powder and blush which are really soft and I find that their quality is good

I use MAC brush cleaner and I recently just bought bare ecentuals brush conditioner. I clean mine about once every three days. I recently heard the proper way to clean brushes would be to let them sit in water for about 5 minutes and then clean it with brush cleaner or conditioner and before you lay them flat to dry you shape it in the desired shape. Then you lay them flat to dry.

My brushes consist of mainly MAC, I have tried other brushes but I haven't found any good ones yet. Ulta is good too, I have a few of their professional brushes. I heard too faced brushes are awesome. So I might give that a go.

You should clean your brushes once a week, especially your foundation brushes.

I like to use a brush cleaner to clean liquid foundation off of synthetic brushes. For the rest - powder off of synthetic and natural hairs, I like baby shampoo.

I think MAC brushes are good. The Bare Escentuals brushes are really awful though. They're very scratchy.

Answer to questions 1 and 2

I try to wash my bushes after every single use, its becoming a habit (unless im running late), and because of that I preffer to buy the mac brush cleaner as opposed to just using shampoo. It's convenient and dries fast and REALLY cleans the bushes so well so its totally worth the 10 bucks. I don’t have time to be using shampoo and water time after time. I only do that once a week for a final clean down of all my brushes.

Answer to question 3

MAC brushes hands down, I also really like my Sephora stippling bush a lot but that’s all I own from sephora. I like my sonia K brushes im not crazy about them theyre just good to have until I can afford more mac brushes.

1. I clean my brushes minimum once a week.

2. I've only ever used whatever shampoo I have around, and it works great!

3. I have brushes from Faces (Canadian store maybe), and Quo (drugstore brand). I like both very much.

I really like Forever Female's synthetics, and I have a great set of sable brushes someone gave me 20 years ago - no idea what brand they are, though. Plus a few from the Body Shop, which aren't great quality, but they're perfectly okay, and they weren't expensive. A few MAC brushes, but honestly amn't that impressed with them.

I do a full wash (handmade soap and water) once every week or so on most of the brushes I use (I have a LOT, so I don't use all of them all the time). On a daily basis, I wipe them on a microfibre cloth to get the powder out and then go over them with a baby wipe after.

Eye brushes get washed every day, ditto concealer, lip brushes, and the once in a blue moon I use a liquid foundation, that brush gets washed right after, too.

Like Aquilah said - anything with gel, cream, liquid, etc. - don't let it go overnight to cake and collect dirt and then use it the next day. But for powder brushes, I'll do the quickie stuff daily and wash them properly every week. I've got doubles of everything important so I'm not left brushless if something doesn't dry on time.

I wash my brushes once a week with baby shampoo, shape them and lay flat to dry. Sometimes I will use Lise Watier brush cleaner which you spray on the brushes. It works great for in between cleaning.

I like Quo (Canadian drugstore brand), MAC ,and Sonia Kashuk brushes.
