I'm looking for a foundation for oily and acne prone skin. Preferably medium to full coverage to cover my blemishes. I'm not a fan of drug store foundations. I've come up with a list of possible foundations I'm interested in trying and would love to hear your thoughts on any you have used. Let me warn you, the list is long :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

NARS(any medium-full coverage ones)

Tarte Amazonian Clay

Yves Saint Laurent LE TEINT TOUCHE ECLAT Illuminating Foundation

Napoleon China Doll

Laura Mercier Silk Cream

Laura Geller

Dior Diorskin Airflash Spray Foundation(very curious how well this works)

Stila (any of the medium-full coverage ones)

Givenchy Photo'Perfexion Fluid

SHIESEIDO Radiant Lifting Foundation Broad Spectrum or the Makeup Dual Balancing found

GUERLAIN Parure Extreme Luminous or Lingerie De Peau Invisible Skin

ILLAMASQUA Skin Base found.

I know, its a long list.. but if you've tried any of these or even have one not listed you would like to suggest, please feel free.

go to sephora (hopefully there's one near you) and tell them you'd like to take home some foundation samples to try.

I did exactly this a few months ago and came home with a half dozen samples. I didn't end up liking any of them.

I ended up buying Vapour Beauty foundation stick (but I have dry/mature skin) from another site and I do like it.

Good luck, hope you find something you like!

I agree with suenotto, head over to sephora if you have one near you and ask for samples. You can get most of those brands there. I currently use Urban Decay's new naked foundation. Its great for oily skin (or so they claim), and it has buildable coverage. Of those in your list, I've only ever tried the Stila, the one I used was called one step, and I don't think they make it anymore...for what it's worth, I really didn't like it.

Thank you for your responses. The problem is, I was involved in a car accident and in result, have a herniated disc in my spine. I'm currently not able to sit in a car or walk around for long periods of time until I heal, or else I would have stopped by Sephora or Ulta. :/

Have any of you tried Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation?

I love my Tarte Amazonian Clay in Light

Here is a half and half

No Makeup              |  Tarte Foundation, Lipsurgence and Clay shadow stick Clay blush

I have oily skin and I find it wears well for me it definitely evens out my skin tone

oh no! :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I hope you feel better soon.

Perhaps you could send an email to some companies and see if they will send you a few samples? I'd start with Jouer cosmetics, they are higher end, and very willing to send samples. Then you could try them out, and place the order online.

Have you considered writing to the companies and asking if they had samples?

I use all sorts of foundations, like mascaras they are my everyday go to makeup need and I like trying new ones to see what properties each has and I like different ones for different reasons.

I hate to add to your list but . . .

I really like Make Up Forever's HD foundation and Too Faced's Magic Wand Foundation.  I'm kind of in between on colors for the Too Faced one so I bought both, you can get in on crazy sales when Too Faced is having their sale events, it's a $32 foundation and I think I got it for $14.  Their foundation covers the redness in my skin so well that my husband doesn't like it on me, he likes my little freckles and doesn't like it when they're covered, which this does.  Similarly, he also doesn't love it when I wear colored contacts (just for fun - they don't have a prescription for sight, just for size) because he says that when he looks into my eyes it's like he's looking into my soul and if I have weird contacts over them he can't see "me".  He's crazy, he likes me best when I wake up in the morning.   Men.  At least I got a romantic one but it is funny that he has definite opinions on some things and other times he's oblivious.

Also, for some reason that I can't put my finger on, I don't love the BB cream done by Smashbox - I have it in Light-Medium and it's okay but not great.  For that price, I need great.

Miracle Skin Transformer is also amazing.  It's formulation glides on effortlessly and it really does transform my skin.  It's about $48.

I know people have problems with Ebay putting false beauty items up and purporting that they are real, but I've had good luck with sample lots including foundation.  I've gotten Chanel foundation foil samples, haven't tried them yet though.  Why would fake manufacturers make samples?  There is no money in it, really, so I don't think that they would.  So buyer beware and all that but you could conceivably get some Gift With Purchase type deluxe samples for purchase through Ebay and try out some of your foundation wants without having to pony up the $40+ each to try each one.

Good luck and please share with us what you find - I know I can't be the only foundation junkie on this site!

Aw, now this is real makeup sisterhood, doing a half face to show exactly what it does!  Kudos, tweakabell!  By the way, I would love to have the natural pigmentation that you have in your lips, they are gorgeous and your naturally rosy cheeks are on my to be jealous of list too.  And dimples . . . I'm going to stop because I'll make you blush.  Which color Tarte do you wear?  It matches really well.  Maybe that's why I like to try so many, I'm kind of in the middle of tones.

I have the exact same problem I am between light and medium on most foundations. For example I am between Sand and Buff in E.L.F. I am light in the Tarte foundation. Like EXACTLY light. lol I was surprised I think it's because I don't think of myself as light, my husband and my best friend are ghost white so I feel dark/ tan most of the time. I have the same issue with height. My husband is 6'4" and my best friend is 5'11" so at 5'9" I feel short until I go someplace and someone hits me at chest height. Anyway I'm rambling. The Tarte is the only thing that doesn't leave me looking like I have a mask of makeup on. I am very happy to find that there is actually a foundation that matches my skin tone. I have so many that I have to mix together that it's nice to have a shade that can go straight on.

You are so cute and pinchable. Love your cheeks!

I hate my cheeks they make my eyes disappear when I smile. I can't do an elegant smile I can have an elegant face with no expression or look like Mrs. Claus when I smile there is no in-between

Lol, I can relate.. I feel that my pretty Korean eyes get lost from my rosy Irish cheeks! The half face was awesome and way to really highlight a nice foundation. Damn, I've been so happy with my drugstore Revlon, but am going to Sephora for some foundation samples! I'm finding it hard to find the perfect shade as well, because of my heritage. I have some yellow undertones, but a lot of red and ruddy areas on my face, too. So I sometimes look too light or a tad jaundiced if I don't use bronzer to even everything out!

You shouldn't hate them. They are adorable. You have one of those infectious smiles. You look like a little ball of sunshine to me.

If it makes you feel any better I can't pull off that elegant smile either. I always end up cackling at something or snorting when I laugh. I really should work on that... lol

I love the cheeks!  They make for a great smile...one that makes others smile.

I love Shiseido skincare but I hate their makeup.  If you walk up to the shiseido counter, you can probably get a sample.  You can probably ask for samples for many of these if you go to a department store and ask.

BTW...are you stuck on the idea of liquid foundation?  Mineral foundations would be good for oily, acne prone skin.  It'll help heal acne if you have it.  They have buildable coverage so you can go from sheer to medium to full in 1 jar depending on what coverage you buy.  I've been using MMU for 10 yrs now and I won't even touch a regular liquid foundation anymore. It helped the adult acne I had after my daughter was born.  There are lots of brands, many online companies will send samples for either price of postage or a small fee.

I have oily, acne prone skin and love the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation. It does have the tiniest bit of shimmer though, but it isn't really noticeable when you put powder on top. I also like MAC Pro Longwear foundation. Also, I find that using baked powders to set with really help with oily skin (and then I blot with blotting sheets if needed).
