Semi-Permanent Makeup

Hi, i am seriously considering getting semi permanent makeup done on my eyebrows and possibly my lipline. Seemingly it can last for about 5 years or so and ive even been for 2 consultations.I am fed up trying to shape my eyebrows and not getting the strong look i want. I am even thinking of getting my upper lashline done as well. Has anyone ever had this done? I imagine it would be quite painful, especially the lip area as they are full of blood and very sensitve. This is quite an expensive option and costs a few $£100 but it's something ive been thinking of for a long time.

Yes Charmiane, i am. I feel it would give me a guide for where to pluck and give me the strong look i like.My browseyebrow's are not exaclty strong, more of a semi moon shape, but i would like a stronger arch and i would like my top lip to be more defined. I dont think i will go too heavy on semi permanent makeup though as i like my face without makeup but would love to get my brows done.Mabe if i could get a decent shape ide be happy(ier).

ive talked to a few people who've had it done and they regret it. im not exactly sure why though. i personally wouldnt get it style/fashion/trends change and maybe 5 years from now i wont be wearing that color lipliner or my eyeliner like that

If you're talking about getting tattooed eyebrows, then I should say I had the same problem many years ago. It was so time consuming for me could not stand it anymore so I had my eyebrows tattoed in 1987. Since then I've had it retouched twice. It does start to fade over the years. I use it as a guideline and still put eyebrow shadow over it. I love it, and it has cut down on the time I spend when getting ready for work. I don't recall it hurting-maybe a little sting. For the eye part of tattooing, I did that too once, and did not ever go back for retouch - that one was so painful and my swollen eyes lasted for about 2 to 3 days. For the lip part, I don't recall if that was a fad during the time I had my eyebrows/liner done, and I don't think I would want one. Just sharing my experience!

I'm sorry, but I don't think anyone should ever get tattooed for cosmetic purposes...it looks really fake. I've seen several people who've had eyes and lips done and when they have no makeup on, it looks strange to say the least. I've even seen quite a few older woman who had their eyebrows done in a weird shape...they always look surprised. Sorry Mac, I'm just speaking on what I've seen on other people.

You're right Envymi and Charmaine, it looks fake. Though I forgot to mention earlier, whether tattooed or stenciled in for me, my eyebrows way back then in the early '80s were "kaput-nada" not a single strand left. So the best advice I could say for all you young ladies to be very extra careful with your eyebrows. For me, tattooed eyebrows are meant for those with no hair at all.

First off, If you are considering semi-permanent makeup I strongly suggest you thoroughly grill the tattoo artist and ask to see pics and possibly "in-person" clients. I have seen the best and the worst of this procedure. Some eyebrows have been blue, green, uneven or oddly shaped. I have seen overly drawn, and misshapen lips and eyeliners as well. But, at the same time I have seen amazing artistry and the most natural looking permanent makeup. My Aunt has her brows tattooed and they are beautiful, and look real. The artist tattoed with tiny brush strokes that look like hairs. I also had a coworker who had her lips done and it was the softest pink and very natural. I say the key is to find someone you trust and that comes recommended.

Yup.. I've really seen some scary tattoo outcomes. Blue/black always fades to blue over time and it looks pretty ugly. My friend now has a blue Madonna mole on her face that she has to pencil over with black everyday. I was impressed with the permanent lipstick my co-worker had, I never knew it was a tattoo and I always asked her what lipstick she was wearing. LOL!

Eyebrows are difficult enough to pluck so it must take a lot of concentration and an expert eye to know how and where to do it.Obviously the expert will have ways and means of doing their work and incidentally a lot of these hugely talented women actually do breast reconstruction for women who have had breats surgery and removal and often these practitioners can make a person feel complete because of their work.

I have the eyeliner done. You can't see a thing on the top lid but that's because of my hooded eyelids. But the bottom one is great. It still looks black and it's not fake at all. The reason why I have my eyeliner done is because I hate how undefined my eyes are without makeup one. At least now they look partially defined

I would suggest you buy a really good eyebrow stencil..they do wonders for eyebrows..you can give yourself new eyebrows or just enhance the ones you already have..this way they will look more natural. I know this will add time to your makeup routine but it's worth it!! Because you may change your mind in lets say two years and you won't be able to do anything about it. BUt this is just my opinion !

I always encourage my clients to go for something very natural looking to enhance their features.

Also what the semi permanent make up looks like when the client has no make up on should be taken into consideration...if you go for something subtle just to add definition there is no reason why it should look fake.

As far as Eyebrows are concerned, there are different ways to apply the pigment...I would always recommend that the client has hair stokes to make it look as natural as possible. I have all three procedures done (Eyebrows, Eyeliner and Lip Liner) the colours were very carefully chosen to add definition without looking false.

I regularly go out without wearing make up (having a young baby means I don't always have time!!) and I feel having these procedures done gives me enough enhancement not to feel I HAVE to put any more on! but I like the fact it is natural enough for people not to know its tattooed on unless I choose to tell them.

Hi Pauline,I think from the thread, most people had had seen people with badly done ones, and so have I. I think most of the time, the ones that are done rather badly beats the ones that look really nature.

I think what you could try is to go around asking friends/people around your area, and see the results of real life people from the same place(note, real life, not photos that the beauty consultants show you), and asked which consultant did they approach (usually, people from the same place might not be as skillful as the other) and have them done from their natural looks. Try to oppt for light to medium browns instead of any unatural colors, cause black might be too dark, and you could always play around with browns more often to change your look.

A couple of my collegues have them (their brows) done, and it's as natural as they could get. But I think you should not do on the lower lids and lips unless you're really sure of it, maybe cause it's more risky, or that tattooing all the the more prominant areas of your face makes it more 'fake' at time.

Thanks for your interesting thoughts and advice. I am pretty sure i am going to get them done as my Beauty Therapist has had her's done and also the 'lip blush'. She has shown me the work she has had done and it looks so natural that i didin't even know she had her brows,eyeliner (top lid) and lipline, lip blush!!!! Its so natural looking.

I have the same problem as you, I've been debating on getting mines done for the longest. Its about 200. I have hair on my eyebrow, they are just not dark. Eye pencils are great and all but sometimes by the end of the day i sweat most of em off! I'd recommend you asking the person doing it if they have a portfolio of their previous work. When I do get mines done, I'm probally doing it a light brown. Nothing too dramatic, just enough to fill them in.
My mom is trying to scare me into not doing it by saying that by the time i'm older my face will sag, and my eyebrows will be all the way to my forehead!
