I was perusing through another forum of mine that I love to visit, and I saw this topic. It was on a mostly-men's fitness and weightlifting forum and alot of members were fairly passionate about the issue... imagine that!!!

Needless to say, I was impressed with what many of the guys were saying. (They are not all doorknobs, LOL!

Anyhow, those of you who have daughters or are daughters of somebody, with your experience, how would you go about instilling self-esteem in a young girl?

I ask this because when it finally comes to that time, and if I am blessed with a girl, then I want to do my darnedest to make sure she has a high sense of self-worth. I remember growing up, my parents provided everything I needed to live somewhat comfortably, but in the way of emotional health I was very starved. I don't want this for my own children.

How do you go about this, or what would you do?

I agree. There is a commercial with kids in them asking their parents to talk to them about sex. i think thats really crucial for you (as a parent) to know how your child is doing emotionally, physically and mentally. not only will it bring you guys closer, but it will create a lasting parental friendship. I wish my mother had spoken to me about things that go on with women..since she is older and has probably gone through it. instead of assuming that i wasnt doing things. Like sex for example...she never talked to me about that..i wish she had. maybe i would have waited?
