Hi, I received The Balm's Stainiac in my Birchbox and tried it out but it seems to not be working correctly on my lips. When I apply it with the applicator onto my lips it only goes on certain parts of my lips. The color does not stay and does not spread all over my lips. I was wondering if there is a certain way to apply it or does it not work on certain lip types like if its dry. I was excited about this product but it seems to not be working for me. Please help if I'm doing it wrong!

Have you tried exfoliating your lips first before applying the stain?

I have the same issue that it coats unevenly because I do not exfoliate my lips often. I am so lazy to do that. LOL.

The skin on the lips will be even and smooth and the stain will be evenly applied. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I hope that helps :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

No I didn't! I wasn't aware of exfoliating your lips first. I forgot to mention this is my first time using a stain. That does seem like a lot of work to wear a lip color haha I would be too lazy too! I knew it would be something about my lips being dry, so I put a lip moisturizer before I applied the stain and it did not work even more lol, that was so wrong. But thanks! I'll try that once I find a exfoliator/scrub. Do you know any good ones, cheap ones preferably?

The very basic exfoliating technique is sugar+honey, if you want to go the natural way. Apply the mixture on the lips and scrub gently. Leave it on for a few minutes then wipe your lips with warm washcloth.

You can also use your toothbrush or a warm cloth to exfoliate your lips.

Just do not forget to moisturize it with lipbalm or anything equivalent.

I cannot recall myself buying lip scrub because it doesn't need to be expensive or with what I have given, you do not need to buy when its available in your pantry cabinet.

Thanks so much! Do you moisturize with a lip balm before or after the exfoliating?

I would moisturize afterwards. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Staniac applied a little unevenly for me too. What I ended up doing was applying one coat, letting it sit for a bit, and then going back for a touch up. It usually worked.

I have to apply a lip balm on top it throughout the day, stains dry out my lips like crazy! :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Good advice, thanks for sharing! I will try that too!

I have 2 Birchbox subs and got the Staniac in both last month. I hate it. You're right - it does go on uneven. Reminds me of this Bonne Belle gel blush my mom used when I was a kid in the '80s. I'm not a stain fan anyway, but I think the product's crap.
