The Perfect Red Lips

i'm loving the fall trend of the rich, red lips. i thought it would be interesting to find out who else is rocking this trend and what you're using to achieve it! post pics if you can!

i like the matte look so i've been:

prepping my lips is vaseline

using milani lip pencil in bonfire - tomato red

lining with tropez buttered rum - brown

then blotting for a matte finish

the finished color turns out to be a deep reddish, wine. this works great for me because my skintone (honey brown) can't really handle to full on tomato red. The pic really doesn't show the color that well, but it will work!

I've experimented with the 'red'. Unfortunatley I can't post the pic, but I use HIP lipstick in Fearless and top with lip gloss. The color is sort of dark plum. I like it and I got alot of compliments when I wore it too!

well i've finally tried red lipstick and i kinda love it. i didn't want to invest in expensive red lipsticks, so i just bought some sephora items (hmm, but i've spotted a dior addict...). i can't show a pic but it turns to be more on the purpleish side, a pure red lipstick doesn't suit me. i use sephora's lipliner n°138 and sephora's n°91 lipstick, with a clear gloss on it.

I always envy the girls who can do a red lip with no effort.

I always have had trouble with red, then some very nice Mercier MUA showed me Lipstain in Scarlet with a matching gloss. I love it. I never thought I could wear such a lighter, warmer red. I always tried the darker blue reds and it was never right.

i thought the same thing at first because i have a darker skintone, but once i started playing around with it i actually found a shade that gave me the intensity i want without looking clownish. that's great that you found a shade that's working for you!

Wow!! You guys have great lips!! Sigh........ But I do love red lips.. And the darker the better for me.. Ligher pinks and pastels and my lips just diappear... Love that matte look to..

i'll bet they do, grace! we just have to find you the right shade of red. the way i get around the intensity of the red is to line in a darker color. because of my skintone i can use a brown that's just a tad darker than my skintone. maybe try milani lip pencil in red velvet and wet and wild pencil in dark brown. you might be pleasantly surprised!

Im not too much of a fan of red. I stick to nude lips or natural colors. I did wear red the other day though for halloween and got tons of compliments

LOL thank you! it's nars's cruella matte lip pencil, my favorite formula EVER!!! eat and drink with it on and that baby's still good.
