since friday, my front tooth has been suffering pangs of unbelievably excruciating pain. At first I was wondering if it was that tooth being pushed by the others, because after the throbbing pain disappeared , the tooth appeared to be loose, but I believe it might actually be an abcess or something since the pain sometimes extends right up into the gum above the tooth.

Has anyone experienced this? my dentist is away and so I wont be able to go and see him until at least mid next week I expect, so in the meantime I was hoping for some suggestions on what it might be?

it's really really painful!!

Aw. No, I have no clue - perhaps it is an abscess of some sort... are you experiencing jaw pain as well?

Until you see the dentist - maybe numbing medicine for the meantime will work?

I dunno - I always usually fight thru the discomfort until I see a doctor/dentist.

Hope you feel better soon tho.

me too man! I almost had to pull over when I was driving! ouchers!

the bones in the gum hurt, if that makes sense but the jaw is not that sore...

I looked in the mirror and the gum and the tooth themselves look perfectly normal. I hate teeth and eye pain!!! they're the worst part ever

Is it the tooth right next to the one you had the root canal? A lot of times they will push medicine down into the canal after the root is removed to fight infection and this causes pressure down in the gums.. At least it did for me.. I'd take an otc pain med and maybe one of those brush on tooth ach medicines that you can get from the pharmacy.. And it it doesn't subside see if yoy can get into a differend dentist monday morning.. Being in pains really sucks.. Also try sucking on ice.. It had worked for me in the past..

take something like the handle end of a butter knife and lightly tap the edge of your tooth ( upward in the direction of the root)........if it hurts like a sharp pain or makes you jump kinda pain than you will need a root canal. When you lift up your lip is there a bubble way up on your gums near the root or if not does it hurt when you press in that area? Sometimes if there is alot of infection the tooth can appear to be loose b/c of the puss at the root tip. Have you ever had any kind of trauma to this tooth or does it have and existing large filling in it or a cavity in it? My only suggestion would be to take something like Motrin or Ibuprofen......they have an anti-inflammatory in them that may help..... but you'll need some antibiotics and a root canal. HTH

if it doesn't hurt when you tap on it let me know and I'll have some other suggestions.

hhmmm, well it has started to be affected by heat and cold.. dee, it does have an existing filling in it. It hurts right up to the bottom of my nose. I'm guessing that the filling has deteriorated. I'm not looking forward to this at all. The appointment isn't until next friday since my dentist was away. He's the most gentle person I know so I'm not going to anyone else, LOL

sure sounds like it's going to need a root canal.....sorry hun. keep an eye on it, if you start to get any swelling call your dentist and let him know b/c if the infection gets outta hand it can be dangerous. man that's a long time to wait for an appointment!!! if you were a patient in my office (well where I used to work) we'd get you in same day to at least get you some antibiotics to hold you over until you could get in for treatment.

I could see the other partner but I don't want to.. mum said he's not as nice, LOL, seriously I will be hyperventilating when I'm there. Sigh. I really really hate teeth related stuff.

I recently had my upper right wisdom tooth pull due to it being seriously decayed. I was experiencing "mild" aches and eating was unpleasant at best. I was given an antibiotic to combat the infection and Vicodin to take once the tooth was pulled. Needless to say I didn't need the Vicodin once my tooth was pulled. My DDS says I have a high tolerance for pain.

I wish you could go sooner. Do you have to wait for your DDS? Are there others in the office that can help you? See if they can prescribe something for the pain.

the pain is alright.. we have a lot of panadeine forte at our house because of my bf's recent accident and his wisdom teeth, and for my eyes also, so if it gets bad I do have access to pain relief at least
