I get all the calls "we're out of space ..what should I do?, the backups didn't run ..what should I do?, logfiles won't shrink ...what should I do?" ...So I get called in to clean up the mess and she gets the credit (well used to).
The majority of my Navy career was the typical ...jack of all trades, master of none ..but I have Cobol, CICS, Model 204, Easytrieve (which we called sleezytrieve), and SAS under my belt. Then I spent quite a bit of that career as a CICS systems analyst ..tuning 6 systems (Officer Order writing system, Enlisted Order writing system) ..ooohhhlaaaalaaa! My favorite thing was my last duty and that was Network Administrator for a secure network! That's what got me (or helped) my MSCE ..granted that's in NT4 which is close to "defunct".
Lately I've been working with DTS though ..that's fun. Especially since we don't have anyone else to do it!!! (JOB SECURITY..oh yeah ...oh yeah...) Most of the stuff I know is self taught too ...like the SQL. I've had classes after the fact ..hey if my work wants to send me ..who am I to say no! LOL
I work at the hospital in Salisbury MD ...nice too because it's not a typical IT business so there isn't any threat of losing my job ..I can stay as long as I want! I did consult for a company in CA ...Redwood City ..that was in '99. Stayed with them 2 months ..HATED IT! I lived in DE and worked in CA ...whew talk about commutes! LOL ..actually I flew home every other weekend. My son was 6 months old at the time ..so that's why that only lasted 2 months!
I'm impressed. No wonder you made that joke about boring SQL books. Would you like to read through a C++ programming book for fun? Me neither!I'm glad my husband does not know you. He'd swoon!!!!!!! LOL.
Fantastic repetoire you've got there. Love the smarts!
