You can either write to the co. (sometimes they keep the discontinued products and sell to customers individually.  Estee Lauder does this), or you can mail the remainder of your product to some new outfit that will make more for you.  I read about it in an article recently.  It's a cosmetics company who re-creates out of production lipsticks & other cosmetics.  They do require a certain amount of your old product- not sure what it is.
I think you're thinking of Three Custom Color Specialists. I have never used them, but I understand they're very good and the matches are excellent.

I go to Big Lots for my discontinued products and have been able to find things like Maybelline Pulse Perfection which have been discontinued for years!

I would be kind of bummed but 'eh, it would give me a reason to try new things.

Don't you guys worry about the, idk... integrity of a product that is so old? I see things like this and always worrying about buying it, especially lipstick and nail polish, because it seems like after a long period of time it just wouldn't work right. If that's not the case, that would be awesome. I have little kids that love to go to the dollar tree and I see things there a lot that I wouldn't mind having. Have any of you had problems with this? Or is it all amazing and I have been letting great deals pass me by?

I normally don't worry because the worst thing is that it smells off and TBH that can happen with newer products. I rarely buy nail polish, as I have noticed some nail polishes from the Dollar Tree have separated (not a bad thing always ... just gotta shake it up) and I would rather not buy already separated nail polish.

So far, I have been lucky buying older or discontinued make-up from the Dollar Tree ... nothing nasty.

I just used up an Estée Lauder GWP 4 quad eyeshadow palette that was around 8 or 10 years old and it worked nicely, didn't smell and I have a few MAC lipsticks that are around the same age. Yeah, I am finally using up my beloved collection :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I haven't run out of anything I love yet, but depending on the type of product I might hit up ebay. but usually the things I like aren't specific enough that I couldn't find an alternative (I don't have a favorite lipstick shade or foundation--I'm still looking for my HG's).

one thing that's almost as bad is when a company CHANGES a product without telling you! Like, they make it with cheaper or ruin the formula--this goes for almost anything. I bought a camera lens like 5 years ago and when I bought it again (sold my stuff to get new stuff), it was so different! It used to have some metal, now it's all plastic; autofocus is slower, pictures aren't as crisply focused; etc.. but they still kept the name and reviews on amazon--so sneaky..

you might also try discount stores like grocery outlet. I remember going there once and the lady in front of me had like THIRTY of some maybelline blush, which was discontinued--I guess the lifetime supply kept her happy. but idk how often stores like that carry makeup.

I'm with you! I keep it till it smells bad or it doesnt apply right. I still have some makeup from when I was in HS! So no, I'm not worried about buying old, funky makeup!

Yes, over the years I've seen quite a few of my absolute favorites disappear: Ultima II eye shadows, Max Factor lipsticks and foundations, and L'Oreal Mattique foundation to name a few that come to mind quickly.

I miss Ultima II! In the 90's it was my night-out makeup. Walgreens ended up with it and it had this sad, last-hurrah aura to it before finally fading out of sight. As for Max Factor, I thought it was still available from European vendors?

I used to love revlon creme foundation which i used a few years back but it was discontinued and of cos I was sad cos it was the only one that look good on me.  But than I moved on....and found my mineral makeup...yippie..

Yes, I found Max Factor foundations on the Drugstore.com site, but not the lipsticks, and I miss the lipsticks a lot, I really liked them. I've actually gone on to better foundation than the Max Factor Pan Cake, but I was very upset back when they announced that they wouldn't market it in the US anymore.

Ultima II eye shadows were my favorites. The first time I bought them was at Carson Pirie Scott here in the Chicago area, nowhere else carried them locally, except maybe Marshall Field. Later, I bought a gift set with a ton of full-size colors at a Cosmetic Center store (remember them? Another makeup resource I miss) back in the '90's.

Max had this lipstick called Russian Red that was my first defiant, in-your-face red and my favorite for many years. I never figured out why they decided to discontinue in the US. Even less another big favorite, CCB-Paris. Agnes B. had a lipstick very close in color to the long-gone Cabot shimmery mauve-brown I mentioned earlier on this thread. I found it a real kicker when I learned CCB-Paris is L'Oreal! Why they thought it was too good for the US, I have no clue.

Another product I wish was still sold is an older Smashbox lipstick called Smashing Temptation. I got a tube of it from someone on alt.fashion back in about 1999, and I love it. I actually still have it, and it doesn't seem to have gone bad yet, still no change in appearance, color or smell. I wear it once in a while, rationing it carefully. I follow my mom's lead, she kept lipsticks for years and years with no problems.
