Just curious...What do you consider "Heavy" Makeup. Is it the amount of product a person uses? ie...Foundation, Concealer, Eyeshadow, Liner, Mascara, blush.

Or does application technique make it "Heavy" ie...caked on and thick.

I was wondering becuase I had a person tell me I wore heavy makeup, when I actually wear a sheer tinted moisturizer, blush, shadow and gloss. My makeup doens't look cakey or show on my skin. I don't even wear powder. So what do you think the person meant?

Does Heavy equal amount of products used or how it looks on your face?

My definition of heavy makeup is mainly the foundation. If I can scrape my nail across you face and peel off a patch!! You probably have on too much. I dont see your makeup as being heavy. Heavy is cakey, layers upon layers of makeup!! But nah, not you.... you just bumped into a hater that's all

When someone has it on thick/caked on is what i would call Heavy.

I guess maybe the person who said that to you meant it by how it looks on you. I personally don't think your makeup looks heavy at all, so like April said..you just bumped into a hater.

Maybe the person thought it looked 'heavy' because the colors were bright, beautiful and noticable, not like people who wear mostly neutrals. (If that even really makes sense.) I don't think it looks heavy at all, your FOTD's are freakin gorgeous!!

Maybe the person that said it does not really wear makeup.

I know "heavy makeup" IMO is when someone has it on so thick you can scrape it off.

I think some people use "heavy" to mean "lots", as in visible, scrapable fdtn and such. My mom used to say my eyemakeup was "heavy" if I used liner or more than one shade of shadow, or if the color was deep.

I would suppose that the person who made the comment meant it in the second sense, since you wear more graphic eye looks than many people feel comfortable in.

I agree - sounds like someone who is just a hater, having a bad day, or someone who either doesn't wear makeup or if they do, wears only fleshy shades or something.

For me, heavy means when it isn't applied correctly and looks cakey or when it's not applied nicely. like someone has ridged thick eye liner on. like they didn't even sharpen the pencil. trust, i've seen it before.

for other people who aren't used to makeup, just using a couple of things on the face where you look more "done up" than if you don't have anything is heavy to them.

For me, it would be just too much makeup on, or too dark of a foundation. Or tons of cakey foundation...

Manders, you're makeup is gorgeous... all of the time. The only other thing I could say is that your makeup colors are very vibrant (lips, eyes, and cheek) and it looks great on you. Maybe the person who said it, wears the same boring old makeup everyday. Your makeup totally suits your personality... very lively, and vibrant. I love it!

Juding from your avatar picture, your makeup is not heavy at all. You look clean and natural.

to me the following could be considered heavy

A) spiderleg mascara

B) black or dark purple and/or blue eyesahdow

C) bright colors, (i.e. red lipstick or hot pink e/s)

D) cakey foundation that looks like it will crack!

E) black eyeliner all around the eye, (bottom as well as top lid) overdone smokey eye

F) foundation that is obviously not correct color is more noticeable so it gives

a "heavy" affect

G) bright blush

H) super drawned in thick eyebrows

I) obvious and over lined lips

J) glitter in the middle of the day

Heavy to me is that spackled look foundation and powder. Or foundation that grabs onto every pore like when it's time to do a good exfoliation. But if you are wearing a tint. moisturizer and no powder I don't know what they mean't. It's one of those things that means something different to everyone.

i think to some people heavy means makeup that doesn't naturally occur on your face naturally, ie. all eyeshadows outside of the the boring colors of vanilla and taupe, and anything with a shimmer.

That's something that always bugs me. I feel it's not correct to refer to makeup as heavy or "too much" when most people are not referring to the 'amount', more to the color. People always use big words for small things. I've heard people talk about what must literally be heavy foundation and they go further than saying just heavy, they'll make sure you know the foundation was cracking, piling, dripping down her face. Lol.

Ok I'm rambling, in conclusion my opinion is they refer to the colors.

I don't think you look overly made up at all, it was probably just a very bright color you were wearing, or maybe the person who noticed was jealous.
