marisol, was it really headed for SF? either i forgot or just never heard that.

i think the scariest thing was the night after, or the same night. i'm not sure which. i woke up at about 3 in the morning to the BIGGEST thunder and lightening storm and i was convinced we were getting bombed. the noise and the way my room kept lighting up made me think we were, so i went back to sleep (i don't know how!) because i thought if i was killed, it'd at least be in peace

maybe some NYers remember that happening, getting a storm?

I was home in Northern California for summer break, sleeping in when the attacks happened. My mom woke me up to tell me the news and I sat in front of the TV for the whole morning/afternoon. I knew that all of the planes in the US had been grounded, so I was absolutely terrified when I heard the roar of a bomber jet fly low over my house.

Turns out, they had let an international flight finish its trip to China, but had the plane escorted by two fighter jets.

I can remember everyone being scared that they were coming to SF. They started patrolling the Golden Gate Bridge. I think I saw more army people on the bridge than civilians.

I think I was in 6th grade when I heard about the news... At first it didn't terribly affect me, I was very confused and still didn't understand what was going on.

I'm very thankful that none of my loved ones were involved, but it's still heart-breaking to know such a thing happened.

i was on my way to class at the u of h when i heard it on the radio. i couldn't believe it was real. when i got to my classes my professors had either cancelled or we talked about what was going on. one of my professors had a sister that worked next to the towers and she was frantic that she could not reach her. the whole thing was horrible. i worked for chase bank at the time and we couldn't do anything b/c chase is based out of ny. we just sat around looking at tv and listening to the radio.

Anyways,

I was in class when the professor wrote a sentense on the board that said there was a bombing in NYC. I thought it was ridiculous that she would write something like that on the board if it was a joke. She wasn't completely accurate about what happend and it was even more scary to discover what actually happend. A sense of impending doom just fell over everyone. It was a sad and eerie week because i worked near an airport and the sound of no airplanes was strange and disconcerning.

I was sleeping when this all happened, and I woke up on the tv's voice, and i thought this gotta be big,my family never let the voice of the tv this loud unless they're watching something really important, and when i saw it, i was freaked oooout, i thought it's a new action movie or something..

I was just arriving to work. I could see the smoke in the air from here (in NJ). We were able to get a TV working with an aluminum foil antenna and the only station we could get was an all Spanish station. We have one person in the office who understands and speaks a little Spanish so we were able to get bits and pieces.

When the first tower fell, I knew I had to leave work. I'm an EMT in my home town and was the Vice President of the squad that year. I immediately left work and headed to the squad house. The second tower fell as I made it to the building. Members were already there and preparing the rigs and the house for the worst.

I then attended an emergency meeting at town hall with the mayor and the rest of the town (Fire, Police, Rescue & Recovery and the other ambulance squad) We were preparing to head into NYC to help. We went back to our buildings, changed, called loved ones and prepared to leave. We were stopped at the last minute by the mayor, saying we had to wait until we were called up to help from the County Level.

The next day MacForMe, another friend and I took off work and headed to the city on our own to help. The closest we could get was Liberty Park and our help wasn't needed because there were no survivors to send to that staging area.

A few weeks later, MacForMe and I were called up by the County and we headed in to NYC with 5 other squads from the County to help out at ground zero. That was a very emotional day and will not be forgotten by any of us. To this day it gives me the chills and sends me into tears.

We recently visited ground zero for the first time after that day. We both lost it big time!

I was on the phone at work frantically trying to get in touch with my sister. At the time she was working in one of the World Trade Center Towers.

Several hours later I heard from her. But those hours seemed like years.

I forgot to say "ditto" to your comment !
I was visiting Winnipeg (where I am from) with my Mom. We were at my Grandpas house and he has satellite. I was sleeping on the couch and I woke up in time to see the second tower get hit. I was really confused, as I didn't know why or how something like that could have happened. My Mom was set to head back here to Vancouver the next day but didn't get back for another three days. I went back as scheduled, two weeks later but I was so scared on the plane and I have always loved flying and have done the trip to and from Winnipeg hundreds of times. One thing I will tell you is that the US coverage was totally different than the coverage here in Canada. With Satellite, you could flip back and forth from Canadian and US News and see the difference.

Yeah, I guess I will keep my mouth shut on Bush as well. It's tough though.
But I am curious about the different news coverage you are talking about. What kind of differences did you see?

Thanks Karrieann, I know you can do it.
