I just learned of this place in Japan where they make custom clothes. Nothing I'm sure you couldn't get here in the US. But, what they do is amazing, I very much doubt you could get it here.

They take cashmere and have it tighly woven. Then they sew the seams of your clothes by hand, grabbing only one thread from each side of the fabric working it's way up.

If you think that is amazing, they take it further. For the perfect fit, you put a jacket on and litterally sew it while you are wearing it! For a perfect. Simply amazing.

Yes there is even more. If you looking for a particular type of fabric and texture in a certain color they even custom order fabric.

they kind of do this in thailand. They take all your measurements like in the olden days and make whatever garment to fit your exact size.

They're very cheap too. It's awesome because you can choose things like the linings on jackets and such that you can't really do in Australia except in extremely expensive shops.

I bought a suit skirt and jacket, and a business shirt for somewhere around $150 - I got to choose all the fabrics and the style myself.

it's a really nice thing to do, I believe it's how clothing should be made! especially garments like coats and suits that will get a lot of wear. Shopping is very impersonal these days, don't you think?

Thats pretty cool. I am sure we just need to find it here.

I know Trashy customizes a lot of their clothes and costumes from their collection.

Shopping is very impersonal these days, don't you think? No kidding. The best service I get is from Macys. Though I did buy a suit at the K&G a mens store that sells suits. I noticed all the pant legs were super long. When I asked why it's because they tailor all pants. Yes that's right, they have a full time seamstress take measurements while your wearing the suit marking it with chalk. I ended up with a very nice suit for just over 150 that would have easily cost much much more in a store.
Back on topic. I hate most store services these days. It's find it yourself and if you don't see it, we ain't go it. Seems service is almost the thing of the past.

While I make less than most people, if you sell quality goods with outstanding service, I will buy and I WILL be back. It's just the way I am. Not to mention, if you buy quality you rebuy as quality goods tend to last.

so where can i get more info on this? =)

sparked an idea: prom is coming up

& of course i'd LOVE a fabulous, custom dress.

Having clothes tailor-made is such an awesome idea. Usually you need to source the fabric yourself if you're getting something custom made.

they do this in Vietnam too... my mom got an entire wardobe of summer clothes in dupioni silk... and they delivered it to her hotel room that evening. seriously on the cheap there.

they have that stuff in the US too. Last year for christmas I gave my sister a chance to get custom made shoes. Obviously custom made clothing/shoes will be more expensive than your usual but almost every designer will custom make clothing for you..

hi we do that in the philippines too, there's lot of sewing shops and you could get your measurements and have any design custom made for you too. but sometimes this takes like a week to make and it's more popular with gowns or formalwear
