Would an angled haircut look ok on longer hair?

I have straight waist length hair, and I'm looking for a bit of a change. I don't have the guts to cut it short, but I still want something done. I love Rihanna's asymmetrical bob, and I've seen it on other people where it's a little bit longer but still pretty short. I was wondering if something similar (longer in front, shorter in the back) would look ok on longer hair...I'm willing to have some cut off, I just don't want to lose all my length.

I would think it would look ok as long as some of the length was cut off.
