  1. I'm now ready to begin a third year of No Buy! I want another year of using up what I have and paying off debt. I need to work harder on using all of my products up. Last night, I began using my full size Avon neck cream, and a $200 Dead Sea eye serum that I got in a Glossybox a long time ago. I get nice things and I just store them away. It's a bit harder now with the debt snowball and the project use it up, as I am on kind of a plateau. I have paid of my small debts, and now am working on the bigger balance debts in my debt snowball. I've used up all of my skin care samples (except for toners and masques), and am now using up full sized skin care. The goals are going to take longer to achieve this year. But this also is a sign of great progress. I found on YouTube a lady named Jessica Lee who actually completed 3 years of No Buy. On June 23, 2019, she published No Buy Update 2 YEARS!!! / 24 Months. In this video, she talked about wanting to shop, but also wanting to complete a third year of No Buy. And she did complete that third year!
  2. I am going on a No Buy (replacements only) in January and February. My goal is to pay off a credit card of $140 (accounting for interest, I will need to pay off around $150), and to use up my deluxe sample sized beauty items. The same resolution I have every year, but this time it's different. I'll be paying off the last in a very long series of mini debts I had in my debt snowball, after two years of paying things off. After that I'll be going into a different phase, working on larger debts. Also, I am starting with far, far fewer sample beauty products than I used to, having used so many up in the last two years. It's exciting, getting to the end of this phase. I'm going to be going through my samples in the next two weeks and getting ready! It's a good way to start the year, with smaller goals and easier wins.
  3. Goals for November: getting ready to enjoy the holidays in December, and making an early start on New Years Resolutions. Work on credit card with balance of $335. I have a goal to pay it off in the beginning of February, 2020. Therefore, I hope to reduce the balance some more by the end of 2019. Also this month I want to use some more things up, because in December I will have my Advent Calendar. Use up Yves Rocher Golden Tea Shower Gel - this is the holiday shower gel from last year. Use up Sahajan Eye Cream mini - almost done. Use up Sisley Body Scrub mini - almost done. Finish travel pack of Member's Mark Makeup Wipes. Try to finish a few more little items.
  4. I'm up in the night again. Instead of shopping online, I'm going to start a beauty inventory. I have a new idea. Ipsy has an amazing beauty profile quiz. It's so detailed. It asks you how often you want to receive each specific type of product, color, and fragrance note. Ipsy this month is sending me a purple nail polish, and I'm excited, as I have only a few polishes, and no purple. This got me thinking: what if I could do an inventory, and fill out the Ipsy quiz based not on what I like, which is what I usually do, but based on my inventory. Then I could justify getting Ipsy and having a No Buy project pan. Interesting experiment, no? First, mascara. I have 15 mascaras. They are all from sub boxes, sets, or GWP. I just got the Too Faced mascara in February Boxycharm. I am currently using an old Maybelline from a Target sub box. I have nice minis by Dior and By Terry, but I am waiting to finish my older ones before using them. They are all black, but I have one primer and one brown. Wish I had that dupe for YSL Burgundy - from L'Oreal, I think? So I am going to enter that I only want mascara rarely on the Ipsy quiz.
  5. Happy New Year, 2019!? Excited to begin a second year of No Buy. Products I will be starting with: Baylis & Harding bath and body gift set (two body washes and a lotion, jojoba, silk, and almond scent - one of my wonderful Christmas gifts. Gilchrist & Soames conditioning shampoo mini, another one of my beautiful Christmas gifts. Maybelline "The Falsies Push Up Drama" mascara from past Target Beauty Box. Yves Rocher Sensitive Vegetal mini face cream. I have five face cream minis left to use up. Financial goal: I am already two months ahead on my plan to pay off five credit cards in 2019. On my plan I want to make four extra payments on the fourth credit card by the end of June at the latest. After the four extra payments, it will be gone by the end of the year with just the minimum monthly payment. The first three credit cards are already set to be gone by the end of the year with the minimum payment. Credit card five will get six extra payments in the second half of the year to be paid off. I reread my diary from my January 2018 No Buy. I had such a wonderful month. I was using up all sorts of beautiful samples, and watched lots of films on Netflix. It was so nice to relax and not be preoccupied with shopping all the time. I made super fast progress on debt payments. I got Netflix again for a free month, so I am hoping to have a little rest, enjoy using my gorgeous products, and watch lots of films before my free month runs out and I cancel my Netflix. It would be good to keep getting ahead on my debt payment plan too. [I was doing seasonal No Buy goals in the second half of 2018, but the time periods were too long. Also when I was doing my empties, I had trouble remembering all of the details about the products I had been using a few months before. So I have decided to do monthly projects in 2019.]
  6. I put together my no buy/project use it up for the rest of the year. The idea here is to finish using up all items in some subcategories of products by December 31. This will make me less likely to want to buy new things, because that would set me back from finishing the subcategories by New Year's. Subcategory 1 - Finish Using Foil and Mini Rinse Out Conditioners rahua foil pack Herbal Essences Naked mini Rene Furterer Lumicia mini Oribe Gold Lust mini After using all of these, I will have just one full size conditioner, and six mini leave in hair products left. Subcategory 2 - Finish Using Foil and Mini Face Creams, Oils, and Serums Two Yves Rocher Sensitive Vegetal foils Two Yves Rocher Elixir Jeunesse foils Dior Capture Youth Serum foil Clinique 3 Step foil sample set Chanel Hydra Beauty foil SK-II Facial Treatment Essence mini Avene Hydrance Serum mini Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre mini Mirenesse Powerlift Concentrate mini - use with Mirenesse CC Cream mini Yves Rocher Anti Age Globale mini Yves Rocher Serum Vegetal Wrinkles and Firmness Serum mini - use with Serum Vegetal toner Yves Rocher Wrinkles and Radiance Smoothing Care mini - use with Serum Vegetal toner Yves Rocher Sensitive Vegetal mini Poetic Blend Ghost Oil mini Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum mini Marula Oil mini Clark's Botanicals Day Cream mini After using all of these, I will have only two full sized face creams left, so will be almost completely finished using up this product category! Subcategory 3 - Mary Kay "MK Signature" single eye shadow sample cards Rose Mist Sheer Pink Storm Sugarplum Tropical Sun Vintage Violet Whipped Cocoa (two cards) Whisper Pink After using all of these, I will have only a few duo and trio sample cards left in the MK Signature line. Then, I can begin working on my Mary Kay Mineral Eye Color sample cards. Subcategory 4 - mini shower gels I only have one left - Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds. Subcategory 5 - Holiday Limited Edition shower gels I have two: Yves Rocher 2016 holiday collection Clementine and Spices (almost gone), and Cranberry and Almond After I finish category 4 and 5, I can proceed with using my shower gels - one of the largest parts of my collection, in 2019. Also: pay off credit card $500.54. If I can accomplish all of this by December 31, I will begin 2019 in an excellent way.
  7. On December 11, 2017, I decided to undertake a one year No Buy for the upcoming New Year. I was so excited about it. In the weeks before the New Year, while having fun during the holidays, I worked on getting ready for my No Buy. My goal for the No Buy was to pay off some debts. I prepared for my No Buy by organizing all of my cosmetics, listing my debts in my journal, and beginning to use up a shampoo, a holiday scent shower gel, a cleanser, and a face cream foil pack that were almost finished already. They were items that had been sitting on my dresser forever. That really got me in the No Buy mood. Goal setting: My goal is always to pay off debts. In past years, I would always declare that "I am going on a No Buy to pay off my credit card debt." Since that is such a large and far away goal for me, I think it was easy to get discouraged and give up as soon as I came across a tempting item. I think this is one reason why my past New Years No Buys always crashed in May. I think this year was more exciting because I set a smaller specific goal. I resolved to pay off not all my debt, but one smaller credit card debt each month. That was exciting for me. The goal proved to be too big to fulfill after six months, but I was able to revise it as the year went on. I ended up paying off not all of my debt, but five credit card debts. That was great. For this year, I have a specific, doable goal of paying off another five credit card debts. It is specific, but realistic. I have a payment plan completely mapped out for each month. I will be doing last minute preparations on my debt goals and using up a few last minute items in the coming weeks. I'm excited for No Buy 2019!
  8. Tomorrow is the Summer Solstice (6:07 am EDT). I will be on no buy during the entire summer until Sept 22, and hope to pay off a debt of: $409.34. Beauty Goals: ?Begin panning a new mascara. Three and a half months is the perfect time period to use one. I will open an old one, but one never used, still in its packaging: Wet and Wild Max Fanatic Cat Eye. I'm pretty sure it's my oldest mascara, because I believe I received it in the July 2016 Target Beauty Box. ?Begin using my full size shower gels! I've used all my travel size shower gels, except for one travel size from Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds. I am so looking forward to using some of my full size shower gels--I will begin with "Collection Ete" by Yves Rocher. This was from the summer collection of last year, and I have a matching hair mist and pedicure set. ?Use up my samples from my 2017 Sisley subscription boxes: June 2017 box: Eye Contour Masque foil Eau de Campagne body lotion mini July 2017 box: Izia perfume vial Floral Toning Lotion mini bottle (precious) Black Rose Cream Masque August 2017 box: Supremya At Night The Supreme Anti Aging Eye Serum Sisleya L'Integral Day and Night Cream Eau du Soir EDP mini bottle (real perfume!) Sisleya hand Cream SPF 15 ?Use SK-II Facial Essence sample from August 2017 Luxury Sephora Play! box. That's it to begin. happy Summer!???
  9. I'm excited for No Buy June! My Products: Nature Queen Shampoo and Conditioner deluxe samples Erno Laszlo Firmarine mini facial bar Mary Kay "Boss Moss" eye shadow sample duo card Borghese mascara Kenet MD mini massage bar soap Tata Harper Resurfacing Masque mini Sisley eye contour masque foil pack; Sisleya Essential Skin Care Lotion mini; and Eau de Campagne Body Lotion mini. These are from the June 2017 "The Long Weekend" beauty subscription box, so I hope to have fun using these on the weekends this month, and I hope they will inspire me to relax more. Goal: The next debt in my snowball is: $529.45. Goal is to start paying it off this month, as I would like to have it paid off by the end of July. I would really like to succeed this month and be able to celebrate one whole half year on No Buy!
  10. I can't believe it's May already, and I've been working on this project since last December. This is a crucial month for me. I've been trying for years to successfully complete a No Buy and Project Pan. In 2007 and 2008, I started on New Year's and made it to the middle of May both times, and that was the longest I've lasted on a project like this. I want to break my own record. In both of those prior attempts, I was happy on my No Buy; I felt in control, and was making progress. Then May would arrive, I would see something I wanted very badly, and I would give in. I felt so bad when this happened, and then I was not able to get back on my project. It was like I had been under a magic spell that was broken, and I couldn't get back into the No Buy state. I would go back to my old way. I had not been on the No Buy long enough to make the lasting changes I want and need for my life. May goals: Pay off a debt of $443 I am still working on my Glossybox of face cream minis. I am using an average of three minis a month. I am currently using l'Occitane Divine Oil, in an adorable tiny glass bottle with a little dropper. I am also working on: Crabtree and Evelyn shampoo and conditioner minis; Clarins travel size cleanser; Natura Bisse eye cream foil pack; Doux Me masque deluxe sample; Borghese mascara mini; Mary Kay eye shadow duo sample card in Onyx; Estee Lauder eye makeup remover; l'Occitane Almond bath soap; l'Occitane Terre de Lumiere body balm deluxe sample; and Dollar General brand cotton pads. I MUST work hard on my second job this month! That's it to start! I hope to be back with good updates soon.
  11. Hi guys, hope this post finds you very well. I am beginning another no buy (replacement of any needed essentials only) and project use it up (focusing on deluxe samples) for April 2018. I'm going to spring clean my life. Products I'm using up to begin the month: Mary Kay eye shadow sample card - Real Teal Estee Lauder Eye Makeup Remover - left over from the 2014 Holiday Blockbuster makeup set! Skin Iceland Glacial Facial Wash mini - from Ipsy Tocca Bianca Body Scrub mini - great Birchbox sample 111 Skin minis - I received a mini of the Cryo Activating Hydro Gel in a fabulous Space NK GWP last May. I also received a mini of the line's Space Defense Bright Eye Lift Gel in an Ipsy Offer last year. I was excited to try the line. The products originated with a plastic surgeon in London who worked researchers studying the skin of astronauts, as aging is highly accelerated in space. I used the products last night and I'm not in love with the scent or the way they feel on my skin, but I'm going to use them all up. By not buying anything but essentials, I'm hoping to spring clean from my life another credit card this month. This particular card is not particularly good in terms of fees and interest rates, so I want to pay it off and close it completely. I have already paid my minimum payment for this month and my balance now is: $376.85. Yesterday I received in the mail my statement showing the zero balance from the card I paid off last month. How clean and crisp the paper appeared, and how good it felt to look at it. I felt I had worked hard to earn that paper, and felt proud.
  12. So excited to be back for another No Buy month. My main goal for No Buy March is to pay off a credit card - balance is $150.00. I want to have it completely paid off by the end of the month! I will start the month working on using up the following items: Full size White Rain Apple Blossom Shampoo (used half up last month) Foil pack Yves Rocher Sleeping Care (this is a leave in conditioner to use before bed, and that does not need to be rinsed or washed out) Full size Dior Instant Gentle Cleansing Oil for Face and Eyes (I bought this back in 2014, and used most of the bottle up last month. I just have a bit more to go.) L'Acura Cuvee Royal Refine Serum Vial (this is a little glass vial left over from an Advent Calendar I got at the end of 2016. It is supposed to be used in one day, half in the AM and half in the PM, but I am finding it to contain a few days' use.) After this is done I will try a deluxe sample of Avon Anew Vitamin C Serum. Mary Kay eye shadow sample card in Honey Glaze (a peach-pink shade I am looking forward to trying) Borghese mascara (used all of January and February - will need to discard after this month) PLANT Apothecary Get Happy Body Wash travel size (used half last month) Finally, I got a temporary second job this month, and I'm very excited about it. So My third goal is to work hard and achieve well in this new job. I will be busy this month.
  13. I am committing to another strict No Buy for the month of February. BEAUTY GOALS Begin working through Glossybox filled with deluxe size skin care samples. These are samples I've collected between November 2016 and December 2017. I am going to try to use them based on the date they were acquired. I believe my oldest sample is a L'Occitane Ultra Rich Face Cream with Shea Butter - I think it is left over from the 2016 L'Occitane Beauty Advent Calendar. I also have a L'Occitane Dry Skin Foot Cream with Shea Butter that I believe is also from the calendar, so I'll use those first. Hair - use up conditioner foil packs (4). Use up travel size shower gels (5). Work on Glossybox containing sheet masques and masques in sachet pouches. Continue to use Borghese mascara mini almost every day. I believe this is my oldest mascara mini, and I have been using it for about three weeks. FINANCIAL GOAL First half of February - pay off debt with remaining balance $60.01. LIFE GOAL Have fun and relax, and enjoy the peace of mind that a No Buy brings.
  14. I've been depressed for a while, but after a wonderful night of sleep, I am energized and convicted this morning that I WILL do a successful beauty no buy/project use it up in 2018, and I WILL pay off one credit card/debt each month in 2018, in full! And I WILL enjoy the process! To get ready, between now and midnight on New Year's, I WILL prepare by going through my beauty stash, organizing and taking inventory, and listing my debts. Since these are daunting tasks, I will work on each just a little each day. I can do it! I have faith!
  15. Hello, I was wondering if everyone would like to have a monthly thread for anyone pursuing any type of project pan, use up products project, low buy, or no buy? Please let me know what your ideas are and what you would like to do. I started a project two weeks ago and find it helpful to write about it here. Isn't it exciting that October is here? This is the time of year I really like to shop, so if I stay on course with my plan I will be really proud. Current plan is a no buy/using up foil packet samples and paying off my smallest debt. I am starting with the easier goals.
  16. I know there are a few of us working on project pans for our makeup collection so I figured I'd start a thread to post goals, pics, support when we get tired of using the same items, etc. I'm not doing a specific number of items...I just picked a few that I want to finish up. Here are my project pan items: Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash eyeshadow in Rose Gold - love this color & its perfect for summer. BUT I have so many other eyeshadows (yes I'm looking at you Naked 1 & Naked 3 palettes) that I'm going to try to finish this one up and and move on to others. There's already a lot of pan showing but lots more e/s left in the pan. . Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Toasted Rose - One of my favorite lipsticks, but I have others I need to give some love to so I'm going to finish this one up and move on to some others. LORAC Behind the Scenes Eyeshadow Primer- I've had this the longest out of all my primers. It works pretty good so I think I'll use this everyday till its finished. Avon Ideal Flawless Pressed Powder - I've hit pan on this but It may be a bit challenging for me to finish this up anytime soon since I've been constantly wearing my mineral foundation lately. I will use this to reduce shine if needed though. Avon True Color e/s single in Copper - This one is fairly new and doesn't even have a dent in it yet, but it goes so well with my Bobbi Brown rose gold e/s if figured I'd work on this one too.
  17. Memorial Day Weekend starts after work today. I think it is going to be a big shopping weekend, with many deals. The question is, could I shop this weekend for some summer items and then be on a no buy until Labor Day weekend? Wouldn't that be great? Then I would be in a good place for Fall. First step is to take advantage of some deals this weekend to acquire some items to get me through summer.
  18. All I want to do is buy .... everything. But I'm going to try a beauty no buy until I finish 50 items. I can use whatever I want, and foil and deluxe samples count. Non makeup items count. I need this to work!
  19. I thought of a new idea for no buy, taking it one week at a time. I posted in another thread how I was on a binge last week and I am having a hard time getting in no buy mode. To deal with this and the Sunday blues of having to go to work tomorrow, I am going to: Clean my room and visualize having a good week, then choose beauty products to use this week and put them in a pretty box or bag. They can be new things and nice things. Post photo of them here. Focus on enjoying them this week. Try not to buy, and if I get paid, pay a bit of debt off. If I mess up, I can begin again next Sunday. Every week can get better and easier, right?
  20. I thought I would start one thread for the last 50 days of the 100 day no buy challenge, to make it easier to keep track of. The second half of the no buy challenge should be great! Here's to a beautiful early spring!
  21. Hi everybody, I thought I would start the no buy thread for April early, looking forward to it. I am almost finished with my project of using all my foil samples (80). In April, I will work on a project pan to use up all my deluxe samples in the area of body care, skin care, and hair care. My goal is to use them all up, then use my full size items in these categories (I have far fewer full size items than I do samples). I want to get down to my ideal collection which is just to have one (and maybe one backup) of each hair, skin, and body product. To begin, I sorted and inventoried my deluxe samples: I have so many samples because in 2014 I tried many beauty subs, purchased many boxes from Beauty Bar warehouse sales, and also purchased some beauty advent calendars. I don't have a project for my nail polish, perfume, and makeup yet. I will work on one after I get going on this project. For my financial goal, in April I want to pay off my Netbook (about $170), which has a promotional APR. Happy April!
  22. I could not wait to start a new thread - a new 10 day segment starts tomorrow! My goals and little plans: 1. Use tax refund to get ahead on a bill. 2. Keep having a good time using up my samples. During this 10 day period, I foresee myself finishing all my shampoo and face cleanser foils, and moving on to my travel size samples of those products, which I have gathered together in a case. I still have plenty of face cream, hair treatment, and body care foils to get through. Optional goal: if I get to go out during this period, I may do my nails again, and experiment with more makeup products (brows, eyeliner, lip liner, cheek highlighter) and looks. I'm having fun with this project, and it inspired me to think how much more I might have spent and wasted if I had not been on it for the past 40 days. Last winter, I bought quite a bit. I recall purchasing items from the Lancome "French Ballerina" Spring Collection. I got a bright white nail base, sort of a primer for nails meant to make nail color look better. It was a disaster for me. I'm not good at doing my nails, and they always chip. When the bright pink Jolie Rosalie polish began to chip, the stark white showed through, and my nails looked more a mess than ever. I only used the white polish once. I think I threw it out - but I should have kept it and used it up, because later that summer I saw ads for stark white polishes, the current trend. I purchased a bottle from Cult - I could have used the French Ballerina bottle instead.
  23. I have decided that on January 1st, 2015 that I will undertake a 100 day no-buy challenge. My stash is monstrous, it needs to be used, and I need to stop the mentality of "saving it for something special". My Momma and Ninny always saved things for something special, when Ninny died all her nicest things were untouched, unused. My Momma is bedridden and disabled, this year I am going to use her best china, crystal, and silver for the holidays. They have never been used since purchased back in 1962, two years before I was born! This stops with me. I am special enough to use my nice things. I will not worry about "messing it up", makeup is meant to be used, not treated as a genuine Faberge egg for Pete's sake! I've started using my best perfumes on a daily basis already and it makes me so happy! My rules will be: 1.No beauty/makeup purchases whatsoever for 100 days, commencing on Jan 1, 2015 2. Current subscriptions can be kept, but no new subs can be added. 3. Can participate in Circular Swaps or Secret Exchanges 4. Can only purchase basic hygiene items, toothpaste, deodorant, Cetaphil Cleanser when they run out. 5. Use things from my stash daily, even if I am just staying at home. I would love to have company and friends on this journey. Whether you want to do the challenge, or just give support, I hope people will join this thread. If you want to be in the challenge, please pledge yourself!
